I was looking into diets again for various reasons, and i started looking into the suncoast diet. I went to the suncoast website and read their attempt at recipe, but it kinda has me a little confused.. Is it really that lax on the amounts and TYPES of foods you give??

I do like the idea of the zookeepers secrete being able to be int here all day, because two of my five gliders wake up around 5pm every day before their actual dinner time. So i want to have smething good in the cage for them..

So does anyone use this diet? Can you tell me how you feed it?

I use it, but I had to put everything into the blender and make a mix, kind of like the BML, because he wouldn't eat it the way they said to serve it.

Anyway, what your supposed to do it;

1st Day: Feed 1 TBSp of Zookeepers, a pinch of the Vionate, a pinch of the Rep-Cal, and 2 TBSp's of fruit and veggies, and mix with honey, boiled eggs, and Special K.

2nd Day: Feed 1 TBSp of Zookeepers, a pinch of the Vionate, a pinch of the Rep-Cal, and 2 TBSp's of fruit and veggies, and yogurt.

3rd Day: Feed 1 TBSp of Zookeepers, a pinch of the Vionate, a pinch of the Rep-Cal, and 2 TBSp's of fruit and veggies, and 3-5 mealies.

I just recently switched off of Suncoast and I like it a LOT. But I have breeding females and I just felt like they needed a higher protein diet.

Special K cereal? I didnt see that on the website! Is there a website with the complete diet somewhere??

And when you say mix with, you mean just mox, not blend correct?

Lindsay here is a link to their weekly menu in their newsletter arcives. You'll have to scroll down the page to find it. Hope this helps.

Here is a link to the diet recommended by their vet. The special K is in the protein section.

I used the SunCoast diet previously. My gliders did well on it, but I switched for personal reasons.

For protein, I mainly gave mealworms. They got yogurt some nights to mix it up.

The fruit or vegetable was generally at least 0.5:1. They usually got the same fruit or veggie for a few nights in a row. Corn should NOT be fed with this diet, though a piece as an occasional treat should be okay.

The vitamins only need to be a light coating sprinkled on the food. Some people get uncomfortable with this part since there is no exact measurement.

My gliders ate the ZooKeeper's Secret every night with no problems.

Well, my gliders really seem to like the zookeepers secrete. So so far, i think this might work. My gliders are SOO picky, and they would eat their food at the begining, and then just give up on it.. So that is one reason i am trying it.

Ya know what else, my cats stinkin LOVE the stuff.. they were doing back flips because of it!!! I dropped some on the ground, and they just LOVED it.. then they actually BROKE INTO the box (a tupperware!) and then opened the zip lock.

Glad to see someone else here mentioning the SunCoast diet. I will be driving to St. Pete to pick up my babies in three weeks(I'm counting down the days) and was curious if anyone else on GC used the SunCoast diet. Are you Suggies happy on the diet? Are they content with their meals?

My suggies so far seem to be VERY happy of their diet, but that is always the case when i first start new diets.. then they stop liking them as much.. HOWEVER, i think that i made it over the dislike hump..

What happened is that the gliders were eating every BIT of the diet at first, and the stopped eating ONLY the pellets.. BUT that was only for about 5 days, and now they are back to eating the pellets, i just realized that i was probably over feeding in other areas.. I am now much more careful about measuring them out.

oh yea, the only thing i changed, and i KNOW i might get "flamed" for adjusting an "approved" diet but.. i changed SUNDAY.. they say to give the zookeeper's secret, the "concoction" (which is vitamins and milk replacer) and water.. But i give them a little bit of Mango too since i know that gliders get a LOT of their fluids form the fruits and veggies that they eat, that i was just not comfortable not having something in there for them.. and the good thing is that mango is a very high calcium food so it does not throw off the ca:ph ratio and is also high in other vitamins

Well I plan on sticking to their diet and of course be informed in case a change of diet is necessary. I am not going to be breeding my suggies (I am having my male neutured before I get him) which is the reason I have noticed most people to change their suggies diets. Thanks for your insight. Question...Do you prepare vitamins in the blender with juice or do you sprinkle it on their food?

I sprinkle their vitamins on their food, but i do make sure to mix them evenly on the food, and not just sprinkle it on top because then the first suggies there get all the vitamins, and the others get plain.. ALSO, the days when i feed yogurt, i mix it in to their yogurt because they always eat ALL of their yogurt.. AND when i feed eggs, they get it in their eggs.. It just keeps the variety there because its almost like they are getting NEW fruit and veggies when they dont have the vitamins on them.

Oh yea, i wanted to add:
I'm glad to hear that you aren't breeding and making informed desicions. Its important to make informed choices

I use my own version of the Suncoast and I've found the best way to supplement females on it is adding Wombaroo (or even Wombaroo with yogurt) to the fruits and veggies. I make a relish like mix of them and then stir in the Wombaroo and it kind of melts into the juices and they love it.

Im really glad I came across Glider Central while doing my research before deciding to take on both the joy and responsiblity of owning my very first pair of suggies. I have also joined a local group of suggies owners and just this past sunday met with them for our February meeting. There is just so much information online which can be misleading but actually being able to chat with someone who has experience with the diet is extremely beneficial. Thanks again for your input. I am sure that the more I learn before they come home, the better it will be.

eliphunt, i TOTALLY agree that there is a TON of misleading info out here. and its not all just from the net. people who sell suggies often give the MOST misleading info.. flea market dealers, petstores, ect.. its really not good.. I was glad i found this place too!! It has helped me A LOT.. and not JUST with suggie stuff!

Suncoast also suggests that if your gliders have trouble eating the vitamin sprinkled food, you can make peach or apple juice ice cubes and just mix the vitamins into the juice cubes. Serve them one juice cube per night per 2 gliders and they won't even realize they are getting their vitamins. smile

My babies are on the Suncoast diet and they simply LOVE it! I'm still fairly new so still workin out the kinks of wat fruits and veggies they prefer over wat but it has worked well thus far and have had no issues with them eating the vitamins, I just make sure I mix it in with the yougurt when its yogurt night (like someone else i saw mentioned) and mix it in well with the fruits and veggies on other nights (like someone also said, great mind think alike LOL) so far so good and they couldn't be happier, I love this diet for the variety it allows so my babies don't get bored with their food. laugh
