Here's an idea we came up with for my glider's tent, that I thought might be helpful to share, I don't see it anywhere else, so I appologize if y'all already know this, I'm so excited I just have to post! (See photo).
PROBLEM: The loud "crinkle" sound of the tent floor scared my little guy, so I put down a sheet (as recommended here on GC) to dampen the noise and absorb waste. The problem was, it was very mobile, I mean, it moved around a lot and got tangled and caught on my feet. Even worse, it collected urine & feces which was hard to clean without changing/washing the sheet everyday (which I don't want to waste time or WATER doing!).
I started thinking about other things I could lay down on the tent floor, and my brother suggested I use my old yoga mats. Yoga mats (for those not familiar with "Downward Facing Dog" lifestyle accessories ) are long, flexible mats made of safe rubber, kind of like the rubbery shelf liner you can get at Wal-Mart, but thicker (not open weave) and much more durable. I have 2 old mats, because they wear over time, not to the point of freying or falling apart, but the underside becomes less "sticky", which makes them slide around the wood floors at my yoga class, so I replace my mat 1/year, but kept the last 2 b/c I'm a big recycler and I kept hoping I would find a use for this great rubbery material.
We have! We put down 2 mats, side by side, lining the floor of the tent, and wow does this work out great! They don't slip, they are soft padding for daredevil landings and falls, are super comfy for me to sit on and they quiet the crinkles of the tent material completely. It's kind of like the flooring made from recycled rubber tires they use to make playgrounds safer for human kids!
They also roll up for easy removal & cleaning, and being rubber, are much more easlily "spot cleaned" using the same non-
toxic spray cleanser I use on the cage. So now instead of replacing the sheet every night, I just spot clean each day after play time and wash them 1/week or so.
I know you may have seen yoga mats at places like Target for around $20, but you can often get yoga mats at stores like Ross, Big Lots and Marshall's for around $10, they're durable and non-
toxic, and the tent is just really fun now, like "Glidertopia" my brother said!
P.S. Also my little one LOVES the hanging planter I got at big lots for $1.99, it's just the pvc coated wire type that hangs w/rope, and he loves to swing on his "Gliderswing" during tent time! It's also large enough that it would accomodate more than 1 Suggie at a time if they wanted to swing together.
