ok, before anyone panics too much from the title, everyone is PHYSICALY OK ! its mentally that's [censored]' me out! Everything that i've understood is off ...

i had my trio in a bonding pouch and started to get REAL sleepy so i said to hubby "can you put the girls back please?" (so "girls" would mean it's the trio..) he didn't stop to think about it and put it in with my 5 month old m/f pair!!!!
I woke up, and the first thing i routinely do is check to see that everyone's ok, sleeping sound, how much food they all ate etc, and the first cage i checked was the trio's..

THE DOOR WAS OPEN, so now i'm thinking "great.. he didn't shut the door and now they're ALL LOOSE! so i go to see how the little ones were and noticed the open bonding pouch in there!

I FREAKED!!! i started ripping pouches out of there and turning them inside out to see if everyone was ok.

well, the 2 girls were still in the bonding pouch acting like they were deathly afraid to come out... The 1 yr old male and my 5 mos old male were in the tube sleeping together (that's what REALLY confuses me ) and my little girl, Maggie, was sleeping by herself in the wheel. when i woke her up to see if she was ok she bit the heck out of me!! she's NEVER bitten me before.
i had already looked the younger male over (he was fine) and he happily went into my bra, so after i checked out maggie i offered her the bra and she went to go in it, then saw nic.. took her cobra pose, struck at nic then lept away panicky!

i let her go back in the wheel and put nic in the cage and he went to go back into the wheel and she keeps attacking him
all the older ones are perfectly fine physicaly and mentally.. going on as if nothing happened.

first off, My biggest fear as i was inverting pouches what that i'd find my little boy murdered by the older male, but they were snuggled up sleeping together!!

I don't understand what's going on with maggie.. i thought that maybe the older male had tried to rape her, but she had NO marks anywhere (I especially looked over the back of her neck for mating marks, all the while she kept biting me with intent to hurt)..

she keeps attacking nic when he tries to just come up to her, she keeps [censored] out when i put my hand in the cage and bites me..

this is SO NOT like her, usually she's the one running up to sniff and check him out . Suggestions Anyone? Please?

sounds like you have a very upset little one on your hands. As long as you checked and made sure that none of them were hurt in any way, I would just leave her alone for a day or two and let her get over the fact that he domain was invaded, as she doesnt understand that is was accidental.

I am sure as soon as others see this they will start posting.

*sigh* thanks srlb!
should i be worried about nic? i don't want to keep him in there 'cause he looks scared and confused, that he doesn't know why she keeps attacking him.. ..

but at the same time i don't want to stress them all out more by suddenly making them alone.. you don't think that she'll really hurt him do you? (she's not going after him, she only takes up her cobra pose when he comes up to her )

She probably smells the other glider on him and that is why she continues to do that to him. Take one of their blankies or something that has her scent on it and wipe him off with it. No, I would not seperate them as it will cause more stress, unless of course she becomes aggressive in a violent way to him. Once the scent of the other male is off of him, I am sure she will go back to loving all over him.

I'm fairly new to gliders and not had anything like this happen yet... but I had a thought of something to try .

Put a small bowl of their favorite treat (mealies, yoggie drops, ???) in their cage. Perhaps eating the yummy side by side with him will calm her down and get her mind off of the scare.

i vote for give her a day of relaxing in the wheel. Id be freaked out if a bunch of people came in my house i didnt know. Then you put your hands in there she might have thought you were dropping more gliders off. Surely she is fine even though probably a little angry. Let her sleep it off. Beyond that she could have been having a great dream about this forum for gliders called human central. Sorry couldnt help it. But if i have a bad night and finally get to sleep then someone wakes me up im not the happiest person in the group. I cant be the only one. I dont care about species i just dont want to be the only creature on earth that likes to sleep and not to wake up.

Yeah, she is probably just freaked out right now but all the comotion. She probably bit you when you put your hand in there because you had the scent of the other gliders on you. Give her a few days to settle and some extra treats hand-fed.

Also, just as a side note, if you are worried that your female may get raped, is her 5 month old cagemate neutered? Don't mean to pry but just wanted to make sure you know that males mature at a faster rate than females so he will be sexually mate and ready to mate much sooner than she will be.

this is stephanie...joys friend. she could not get to a computer right now but wanted me to write this. "i just wanted to let everyone know that i appreciate all the responses and advice. i rubbed nic with their normal bedding, gave lots of mango treats by hand, and left them alone for the past 2 days and they are both doing better. all you guys are probably right about her just being freaked out. thank you all again very much. and i will be back on in to days."
