Tonight I had a huge scare, and I'm still shaking when I think about a hundred ways this could have been worse... which is why its a miracle to me.

Earlier my brother and I were filming Sprite and Dart, and got called down for dinner. We put them in the cage and went downstairs without a second thought. Then a movie came on... then we had a fireplace fire... so that we didn't get back upstairs anytime soon.

Then, suddenly, right in the middle of the movie I suddenly felt the urge to go check on a game I had left running. So I went upstairs, paused it, and got some homework. When I stepped out of my room, a little rat-like shape darted across my path, and for a confused moment I thought I was hallucinating. Then, I dropped my pencil, and picked it up... and when I bent down, saw my little Dart shivering and looking terrified. He was practically completely wet, sneezing, and just plain pitiful. I paniced and ran into my brother's room to check the cage, and sure enough we had left it open!

I checked in the bathroom, and here was water all over the floor and around the tiolet's general area. Dart had somehow fallen in the toilet, and gotten out! I don't know how, but my little guy managed to escape such a horrible death!

I feel horrible, because if Sprite had followed him out of the cage, her joeys and certainly her as well would have all drowned. If I hadn't have picked up my pencil, I would still be downstairs oblivious... and Sprite could have gotten loose, and Dart even more lost. He could have frozen to death if he had wandered in my room trying to find me, because my room can get very cold, and he was wet! So many things could have gone wrong, and I think it's truly a miracle that he actually escaped from the toilet. I think I was shaking harder than he was when I realized that he could be gone right now... my little Dart. He's always been a miracle glider, and now he's proved himself yet again.

From now on I'm going to double check both the cage latch and the toilet lid. We had gotten far to lax, and apparently very lucky as well.

This might be a pointless post, but please, let it be a reminder that you can never get even a little careless with your babies...

Lainyle - you're right - that definitely sounds like a miracle! Dart falling into a toilet and surviving..... Thank goodness all is well. I know that sometimes I am lying in bed and I have to get up and check the cage, check the lid, etc.,all the possibles... I'm so very glad all worked out for the best - very glad indeed!

Lainyle, of course is not a pointless post!!
We learn from others experiences.
You were very very lucky. Thank God your glider is now safe and alright.
I always check the cage before going out of the room like 3 times. And sometimes still not sure if it's close I will go back and check it again . I think i'm kind of compulsive in that aspect.

Thanks for sharing your experience..and again you and your glider are very fortunate.

You were so very lucky and it was so good of you to post your story as a reminder to check and double check!!! I'm so glad that Dart is ok, and Sprite didn't follow him!!! I once had a glider fall in the fish tank, he got out on all the tubing we have in there!
Glad Dart is ok!

You're certainly right about the miracle. Far too many gliders have been lost in accidents like this. I can't figure out how he managed to escape, but his guardian angel was certainly watching over him tonight.
Thanks for the great reminder, and thankfully, a happy ending!

Oh the poor baby! You are so right ....about him having a Guardian Angel looking after him.

Might want to monitor for an impending cold if he had been out for a spell being wet. Sign of the sniffles...get him to the vet.

Take Care.

I am glad to hear that Dart is okay. He is very smart for getting out of the toilet. Your story is certainly a reminder to check & double check!

Thank you

Katie,

I am so very happy for you and especially for Dart. I must say you are both very lucky and I admire you for your willingness to share this story! Does Dart appear to be fully recovered from his adventure? I certainly hope so!

Dart has fully recovered from this venture, with no sign of sickness at all. He was a little skittish for a day or two, but now he's back to his lazy old self. Well, at least now my brother can't call him stupid anymore.

My glider once fell in the toilet too... with the lid closed! Luckily we heard him and fished him out right away, and he made a quick recovery. But keep in mind that gliders may be able to get into the toilet even if the lid is closed!!! Some have larger gaps at the back than others!!!

I have to say that is crazy that Dart fell in. I'm happy to read that he is now ok. My little angel has also fell into the toilet and gotten out, which is still shocking to me. I was gone the whole day too. Her name is Booger. But that is quite a story about Dart and his little escapade with the toilet. I hope he continues his journeys with a safe turn out.

One time my sister and I left the cage door open and when i came back they were both in the pouch safe. My heart started racing. I am so happy that your suggie is ok! I do believe it was a miracle!
