over the Rainbow Bridge. I am just so devastated by the loss of yet another one of my rescue gliders. I had Tia for 16 months and during that time, she was never sick. Then suddenly at 1:30 A.M. this morning, I found her lifeless body at the bottom of the cage with a bit of dried blood on the end of her nose and her right front leg twisted at an odd angle. It appeared as if she had suffered some type of injury but I wanted to be sure what had happened & so I placed Tia in a ziplock baggie & put her in the refrigerator.

This morning, I took Tia's body to the vet for necropsy and requested they remove all major organs to be sent to the lab Bourbon uses so they can test the organs and perhaps learn a bit more about gliders which might help gliders in the future. Well I got a call from the vet late this afternoon and was told that Tia did not die from an injury but from congestive heart failure. The vet found her to be filled with fluid and that the lungs had totally collapsed inward causing Tia's death very quickly. The vet was amazed when I told him that she had been running around Thursday night, had eatten well that night and had come out to see/run around on me Friday (yesterday) and no labored breathing or other symptoms were noted during that time. The vet feels the congestive heart failure was either genetic in nature or that Tia may have been exposed to a virus which attacks the heart muscle. If a virus was involved, we have no way of knowing if Tia's exposure to it was before or after I took her in and there is a risk that her 10-month OOP joey Piper could eventually develop the same congestive heart failure if there was a genetic predisposition or if the virus is of more recent origin so now I must live with the fear of what could happen to Piper down the road.

As for Piper, she and her mother Tia were so close. Piper would snuggle up against Tia's tummy. Tia would then wrap her arms around Piper and they would fall asleep every day this way. I am very worried about Piper right now as she never comes out of the sleeping pouch during the day but today she did and she was making such pitiful little noises that I put her in a bonding pouch under my shirt until she finally fell asleep about an hour later. I will be spending as much time with Piper as I can to try to lessen her loss but I ask that people keep Piper in their prayers as she truly needs them right now.

((((((((Glideroo and Piper)))))))))))

I'm so sorry, I wish there was more I could do or something I could say to make it all better. I wish I had a magic wand to wave and bring them all back. They will all be there waiting for you when you cross the bridge. Take comfort in that and that Tia knew how much she was loved.

hugs from all of us

Yes Toni, Tia and Tyler have been reunited and are watching over their little girl, Piper. Piper ate well last night and enjoyed her playtime with me. She is such a sweet but wild little thing who loves jumping and gliding. I truly hope she has a long and happy life with me. Tia and Tyler left a wonderful legacy behind in little Piper.

I also really appreciate the support of GC members. It's so hard taking in rescues, getting them to learn to trust/bond, watching them thrive and then suddenly losing them without warning. But that is the risk one takes when opening their home and heart to rescues. You can only hope they know how much they were loved and that you did your best for them. I believe that Tia would not have had an extra 16 months if I had not taken her in. Her prior diet was terrible until she got on the BML. I think the BML gave her extra time so that she could have a gentle mate like Tyler and a wonderful little joey like Piper.

I am so sorry, this is such a heartbreaking story, as are all the little glider's that have passed over the Rainbow. Please know my prayers are with you and Piper.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Tia was very fortunate to have been rescued by you. It sounds like she was extremely happy and content. I hope that you are able to keep Piper as close to you as possible. You will both be able to comfort each other in this time of loss.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you and Piper,
Dorothy , Bandit , and Gypsy

On a good note, the vet advised me that if the congestive heart failure which attacked Tia's heart muscle was of recent bacterial and/or viral original, I should see symptoms in Piper within a few days. If no symptoms are seen, then he believes that it was either of a genetic nature or due to a bacterial/viral infection which previously attacked Tia's heart muscle and slowly took its toll over a prolonged period of time. This is good news as I will be able to introduce Piper to Pip and PenPen (after fecals/bacterial cultures of all three tomorrow) during a play session in the tent by the end of the week. If all goes well, Piper will have two new friends to help cushion the loss of her mother.
