Bugsy has recently become enthralled with the little strings that pull window bilinds up and down. I have been watching him do this for a while and trying to discourage it by removing him and saying "no". While playing early morning he scared me big time! He was playing with the blinds puller and when he tried to leave it was wrapped in his tail and was so wound up he was trapped and hanging upside down. I was there in a half a second but I can only imagine if I had not been watching so closely.... Today I am going to cut all the strings up to the very top and remove this threat. This post is to serve as a warning as this is just one more life threatening danger that lurks in our homes.

Wow Charlee...how scary! Thanks for reminding us of some of the dangers we normally wouldn't think of...

Oh, Thanks Charlee!! I'll be adjusting the blind pulls in Marcie's room momentarily. She has 2 windows, both with blinds on them, that she can get to. She doesn't climb on the blinds because the noise they make scares her, but I wouldn't put it past her to go for the pulls.

Wow! Thanks for the warning. Bella and Toby's favorite place is running up and down the curtains, and most recently, playing in the blinds. I try to discourage this, but like children, they simply don't care what mom says.
Will definitely be watching more closely.

I'll have to search for the link, but there is a Real Stories about a glider that died this way. I'm glad you brought this up -- curtains and wall coverings are favorite places for gliders to run around, and it would be so easy for them to get caught in those strings!

Wow! I never thought of something like that happening. Thanks so very much for the warning.

Thanks for bringing this up Charlee. We can never be too careful. I have always had mine pulled back behind the blinds in their room just in case they went near it. I had remembered reading something about a glider dieing and didn't want to take any chances, I guess that is the same one Lucy is taking about.

Thank you
