The other day i came home from school, and went into my room to check on Aussie, and i noticed the cage door wide open! it had to have been open since the night before, and i didn't check on her before i left that morning because my boyfriend was still sleeping and i didn't wanna turn on any lights and wake him up. i think i must have opened the top door, to put food in, and then the bottom one to put aussie back in, and then closed the bottom door and completely forgot about the top one.
anyway, we have three cats living in the house, and they come and go freely in my room, and have consistently shown quite a bit of interest in Aussie as a new play toy. i can't tell you how completely panicked i was when i walked in and saw the door open, and i ran over and looked in the cage, expecting to have to search the house for aussie's cat-mutilated body and low and behold, there she was, my little angel sleeping very soundly in her new tri-pouch!! completely, and blissfully unaware of the desperate panic i'd felt moments before. i've been a little worried lately that she likes staying in her cage too much, and is not as thrilled about coming out and playing as she should be, but after this, i thank my lucky stars she's so attatched to her cage!! there's no real point to this story i guess, just that i'll never, NEVER forget to check and make sure all the doors are closed again, and just a quick reminder to everyone to double check everything before you leave your babies subject to a houseful of cats thanks for listening!

Thank goodness she's OK. Not everyone is so lucky with escapees. I'm glad this has a happy ending!

Thanks for posting this reminder to always check out cage doors before going to bed or leaving the house.

Thank you for posting this reminder and I am glad to hear that everything was okay! I have actually forgot to close the door to the cage a few times after taking food bowls out in the morning. Luckily everyone was sound asleep in the nesting box when I realized it was open. But it really only needs to happen one time.

Thank you

Yes,
that has has happened to me before as well, and i too got lucky.
I try to remind myself to double check each time i take out/put in food, or take out/put in glider(s).

This wasn't a pointless post, but a great reminder to ensure out babies saftey.

your post certainly was not pointless. Thank you for posting your story. I sometimes get up in the middle of the night and recheck the doors even though I know I already checked them. I was begining to worry I was developing a compulsive disorder about it. But I've decided it's just part of being a glider parent.

Ark Mom, I do the same thing as you and I was thinking the same way about myself. Once, I did happen to leave one of their doors unlatched and I happened to hear my gliders knock over a glass fish. I was so lucky.

Thanks for making me feel better about the compulsive disorder thing,

I too have developed a habit of checking and rechecking the doors of the cage. Even if I go into the bedroom (where our cages are) for something that has nothing to do with the gliders, before I do anything I check the doors and before I leave I check them again.
When I first got my gliders I too, left the door open when I fed them and gave them water, and forgot they were open, and was also lucky they were asleep in their cage and didn't get out. I think its best be safe then sorry, and think about it how much extra time does it take to check, compared to how long it takes to find an escapeed glider. LOL

Good post!

We had that very same thing happen to us, however the way that we found out was to hear Squeaky trying to jump on our bedroom furniture . Luckily the cats were asleep elsewhere!!! This could of been a nightmare.
