You are the Mommy! LOL! You are teaching him that he is above you in the family! Of course he'll crab at you if you are trying to make him do something he doesn't wanna do! Take his birdhouse in the glider room or tent or whatever and take him out for playtime. He needs the playtime! Put the birdhouse somewhere where he can't get to it & give it back after playtime or bonding or whatever! Final thought, what is this birdhouse made of? Keep in mind that some woods are now safe for gliders. Also, if it is painted or has decoration, it may not be safe. No matter how much he loves it, he may have to get a new bed! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I am new at this, so I was using my wildlife rehab experience with my rescued gliders....I had a parakeet nestbox (I use these with flying squirrels) in the begining and then I downsized to a finch nest. To get the gliders out I had to traumatize them. I got a pouch yesterday and just since I started using the pouch I have noticed 100% change in attitude. I took all the bird boxes out of the cage and I hung the pouch made of fleece. I stopped feeding meal worms for supper and only give meal worms out of my hand. In two days I have made more progress than in the last two weeks with a tent and nest boxes. It is so much less traumatic to turn a pouch inside out than digging in a nest box. Mine seem as happy in the pouch as either nest box. I was also able to clip my two gliders nails by using the pouch to secure them and pulling out each little hand....there was very little if any strees involved. Don't feel bad about taking the box away....the pouch (at least for me) has been a godsend! They are in the pouch on my lap right now...and I can stick my hand in and pet them, or give them treats..... http://sugargliderexpress.com rescues gliders and this is what she recommended and uses and she has about 150 rescues. Almost all of the rescues will come out in the day for treats and all of them are easily accessible in their pouches. None of her brood seemed deprived without a nest box. Mine don't seem upset about me removing the box either. So take it away and stick it in a closet. Good luck!

I think because it's wood it might be spuring an instinct in him. That's his territory now, and by god, no one has the right to bother him in it!! Try forcing him out of it (tipping it upside down) but reward him plenty when you get him out, eventualy he should be less of a 'home-body' if that doesn't work, use a pouch instead.

I'm going to suggest you take the box away. I took jazzy's away due to the.. erm.. smell. I had a cube sleep pouch thing as a replacement and she took to it immediately. Then I gave her the option for a hanging pouch and she now prefers that over the cube. Much as I wanted her to feel at home here, I couldn't handle the smell of that box in the babies' room.
On top of the potential smell, (I don't Care how much it may be shellacked, it WILL smell.) the fact that it may be harmful because of chewing now or future, would have me removing it asap anyhow.
