I need suggestions on how to keep our gliders environment cool enough!!
Chad's apartment is in the top of a pole barn & it gets sooo hot in there. We bought an air conditioner for about $300 but we're having a hard time keeping it running for various reasons- mainly blowing breakers. There's 2 ceiling fans & 2 windows/doors (1 at each end) so there's not much of a cross breeze.
The air conditioner keeps shutting off & yesterday it got up to 110° in there. They seemed to be fine but I'm still worried! I can't bring them to my house because we don't have air conditioning at all & it's not that much cooler- plus there's no room. And of course I don't wanna leave them outside or anything crazy during the day.
What the heck are we gonna do when it gets to be mid-summer and even HOTTER!?

Put a damp towel in the freezer and then drap it over their cage during the day. Pointing a fan at the towel will help too. The towel will have to be changed several times a day, as it gets warm and dry, but it really helps cool things down....

Also try and find a room that is cooler (generally the bathroom in most cases,) and if their cage is easy to move just move them while it is hot and put them back out at night once it is a little cooler. It is excruciatingly hot here too, we leave our AC on constantly... I read on here someone, sorry dont remember who, had filled milk cartons up with water and froze them and placed them by the cage and it helped keep it cool. You might want to try and give that a try!

I do the milk jugs of ice in my cages. I put them IN the cages near their pouches. Also, you might want to get some cotton outside, flannel inside pouches. They don't seem to get as hot as the fleece. (I have a big freezer so have lots of room for lots of milk jugs so that makes it easier)

I saw a picture of a suggie sleeping in a hammock like for the ferrets, I don't know if this will work, some gliders like to be enclosed. But it looked fresh and cool. Just an idea!

I forgot, I have the same issue over at my mom's house, that is where my suggies are living for now, so I put a fan directly pointed at them, they seem just fine, I put them outside in the shade with the fan, I water the floor so that it can be cooler. The dish that is on the bottom of the cage, I fill it up with water and change it as soon as it cools down, I put ice cubes there and once them melt I change them, It works for me. I know that most people don't like to have their suggies outside unsecure but it works for us. I like the fresh air and I like for my babies (pets) to have as much natural air as they can get. They are safe, my cat is actually very protective of them, I never let her play with them, but she does keep everyone including our dogs away from them.

Thanks everyone for the tips! I was planning on whipping up some new pouches this weekend- I think I'm going to just try using the T-shirt cotton material so they're thin. They have a fleece hammock that I made which has another piece of fleece over the top- but they're still in their regular pouch baking away. We have a teeny freezer (to fit in the teeny apartment ) but I'll try freezing some towels & jugs! We might end up shelling out another $300 for another air conditioner... Thanks again!

have an electrician (know any friends/family who is one?) see why your a/c keeps tripping breakers. if i run my vacuum cleaner at the same time as the glider room a/c unit it trips the breaker. too much load on the breaker. it may be a simple wiring change that could fix it, you may need a smaller a/c, or turn something else off that is drawing electricity on that breaker. wouldn't hurt to just find out from someone who knows that stuff! good luck!
