As many of you know I finally got my sugar glider on Valentines day. I was so in love with little Charly it was crazy, and she seemed to be afjusting okay. I was using the grape method and she'd come out of her little pouch and eat it. We got her a wonderful cage with toys and a hammock and everything she could need. As I had said before, the breeder we got her from was feeding all of her gliders cat food, but I wanted to start her on BML. I had 3 different food dishes for her, one with the BML, one with the cat food, and then one we'd take in and out for her fresh fruits and veggies. She made me so happy when she came up and guzzled her face in the BML completely enjoying it. Well I left for work Satuday and got stuck there due to the blizzard. I didn't think it would be a big deal because She had plenty of food and water, her toys, and the other gliders that I babysit are in the same room, although they're not in the same cage. Well I had to stay in the hotel for the Saturday night and Sunday night. But their were other people home and she was okay still had plenty of food and water and was just chillin in her little hammock. I drove back in the over 3 feet of snow we had cuz I missed her so much. I get home and run into my room to surprise my baby and she just layed there like something was wrong. There was absolutely nothing for her to get into and everything in her cage (branches, perches, etc.) are nontoxic and I bought them at Petsmart. But to make a long story short my Charly has died. I feel like such a bad mommy and I don't know what happened, I only had her for 3 days. I don't know what to do...I paid 180 for her and that doesn't bother me at all. I just wanted her to be happy...

I am so sorry for your loss! I know exactly how you feel! I had a glider die 3 days after I got her as well. If she had plenty of food and others were home, it is probably not your fault! My girl showed no signs of illness and died suddenly. I would definitely contact the breeder you got her from because there was most likely a pre-existing condition.. Depending on who the breeder is, they might replace the glider.. I know that's not what you have on your mind because you just want your little girl back.. I did too... BUT, I ended up the Penelope and Priscilla because that happened and I love them more than anything in the world. It hurts for a long time! But a new family might be just the trick to fill the gap. I wish you the best. Don't blame yourself!

I am so sorry...That is just a terrible thing to have happen to you. I would have to agree that this was something that happened before you got her though...I know that probably doesn't make you feel better, but I just want you to know that I really don't think that it happened because of anything you did or didn't do. I hope you will think about getting a new baby to love.

Constance,

I'm so sorry for your loss. Like the others, I can only imagine that something had affected her before she came into your care that may have caused her death. Although, I know that knowledge does not take the hurt out of the loss. I'm going to move this to Real Stories for you so others can offer words of support during this difficult time.

I'm so sorry for the loss of our glider...I would definitely call the breeder and see what they have to say.

Lucky....I'm so sorry for the loss of your little girl. But as others have said, it was nothing you did wrong. Of course that doesn't bring her back. She will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge, where she is now a healthy glider. I think you should try again, maybe with another breeder this time. Hope you feel better soon

I am so sorry to see that you have lost your little one so soon. Though you only got to know her for a short while I am sure that she knew she was well loved.

Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how you feel, just know that it wasn't your fault at all. Your little girl is up there now waiting for you at the rainbow bridge with all of our little glider angels. You and your family will be in my prayers and thoughts.

Sooo very sorry for your loss... I agree with the previous posts...Something must have been very wrong with her before you acquired her...Cat food is not a good choice for diet, and if her diet consisted primarily of cat food, then that possibly could have been the culprit...I understand that another suggie may not replace the one you lost, but it may lessen the pain...Hopefully, you have informed the person you acquired her from of your loss, and they make things right for you with a refund, as a replacement joey might be in poor health, also...Then you might be able to obtain one from someone on this board, who is more knowledgeable of their care...Wish you the best, and keep us posted...

Im sooo sorry! It wasnt your fault at all, so dont blame yourself. I know how you feel, this year I've lost 3 of my gliders Basil, Zoe, and Duke. Duke and Zoe were only joeys still with their eyes closed, I knew them for only a few days but I loved them so much with all my heart. I know it hurts to loose a pet, but it will make you feel better probably to get another one. When I got Milo after Basil died, I still missed Basil a lot but Milo brought me so much joy. Remember Charly is in glider heaven-with my gliders happily munchin and lickin a grape, she's happy there, thats what you wanted

I'm sorry for your loss, and there's not much i can say to take away that pain.
just know that your glider is in a much better place, and all healthy/happy now.
There are many more gliders out there that need a good home.

I am so very very sorry for your loss and know how you feel.

Like others have suggested and you have already tried, don't let up on this breeder. IMHO there is absolutely no reason a glider should die after only three days unless the poor little thing was already sick.

I would be absolutely relentless getting this breeder to make things right for you.

I feel your loss greatly and I am so sorry that you had to experience it so soon, especially after only three days. I agree with KarenE about calling or emailing the breeder. I hope things will turn out for the best for you.

Oh, no, no, you -cannot- let yourself feel like a "bad mommy"! Something was amiss with your poor baby before you adopted her. -So- sorry for your dear one and for broken-hearted you. Hoping you'll find the breeder receptive to your inquiries. And that you'll eventually try being a glider mommy again after a little healing time...
