Well rowg has been acting funny since I have been home from my one week vacation, well i thought that it might have been that since I was gone she wasnt happy (she had my hubby and mother in law watching over her)...

well things started getting worse yesterday and I noticed that she wasnt well at all, she wasnt acting like her normal Rowg self (i try to be very intuative to their actions and to their change of behavior) and so i knew that it was beyond the fact that i was gone.

So this morning when I woke up I noticed that she was walking funny along the cage and very slow and kind of lathargic of course a bigger alarm went off in my head and I called the vet ASAP, whom said all that I had known...the joey that she didnt abandoned had depleted her of all of her calcium and she possibly had HLP or worse! well he told me to give her some Calglucate (something like that) that i did have in stock from when Chloe (my previous glider) previously went thru something similiar but not to this extent. and to give this to her and then all should be fine. So I went off to run errands today with my grandmother and my mother in law...

well when I returned late in the day and came over to feed the gliders tonight I noticed Rowg was laying at the bottom of the cage, almost looking like she was ready to give up...eyes glazed over, no movement, very bad looking. I feared the worse and was afraid that saving her was too late but I called the vet back again fearing that he was gone for the night since it was rougly 6pm...fortunatly he was still there and i was able to talk to him. He had me rush her in ASAP and when I got there I was praying the whole trip (about 35-40 min) that she would survive...he took one look at her and said that she is in BAD shape...

She is very (EXTREMELY) skinny which you cant tell since she had just had joeys and she was kinda fluffed up. and she was extremely dehydrated so he had to give her fluids intreviniously..within about 10 minutes she was starting to perk up, and then he gave her some glideraide which she ate a tiny bit of but really didnt seem interested.

she was much better by the time that we were getting ready to leave but he wanted to keep her overnight just to make sure that she didnt turn back around and take a turn for the worse She is there with him tonight and we will find out tomorrow morning if we can come and get her and bring her home tomorrow night or not...i miss her so much already. Her mate is going to get neutered so that she wont have to go thru this again..I Love her too much to let this happen to her

I could have lost her so quickly, she was so close to dying I know, I saw it in her face and in her eyes, I wasnt going to let that happen to her if I could avoid it. Im praying that all goes well and that she will make it safely back home.

The vet said that if she makes it thru the night then she should be ok.

Just wanted to let everyone on glidercentral know about her and to keep her in your prayers. i will let you all know tomorrow her outcome. ALWAYS stay attuned to your gliders and if something doesnt seem right...it usually isnt. This was all just a change in behavior at first but all to sudden when into something much deeper. Imagine if we had not been keeping an eye on her

I am so very sorry. I know exactly what you are going through. I had the very same thing happen to one of my females but not quite as badly.

I so hope that your little one makes it through the night and all will be okay.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I hope Rowg gets better!!! I was afraid the same would happen to Roz, since she had been through so much. That was the exact same reason I neutered Ruger. Good luck with both of your babies!!!

I really hope your little Rowg gets better! But it looks like God's watching out for her and that she will be fine.
I know how you feel about the emergency thing, we just had to rush my bunny (who I love more than anything in the world, she's a house rabbit so she thinks she's a dog) to the emergency room because she was throwing up, and yes I know that look of death in their face...also fear, they get afraid too. Remember that the lil one is scared too, I mean anyone would be to be rushed in the "hospital" like that, its a scary thing. So give her extra lovin'. Hope everything turns out for the best!

I havent heard anything yet about her, but thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. yes i am on edge waiting to hear about her. She is definatly one of my cutest (all though to me they are all cute) but she has the funniest personality out of them all. Her mate is definatly getting neutered once she pulls thru (which I hope is the case).

Chey...Indy is doing great, I will have to take some pics of him tonight to show you...He is a fighter as well, lets just hope that his mom is!!!

I will come here AS SOON as I hear anything!!

Thanks once again.

Ok here is the update:

She cannot come home today She is very bad off and it is touch and go so far.

So was doing well when we left last night but my wonderful vet who is doing all that he can woke up twice during the night to check up on her, well at 5 this morning she had crashed again...so he administered liquids and then gave her food which she ate a little and then burned the energy so fast that at 10 this morning she had crashed again.

He said that the problem is that she burns the energy too fast for her to keep going. He is hoping that she will eat more and then relax so that she can gain back all of her strength before burning it all at once. But she is always great right after he gives her liquid and food.

He said that he wont force feed her cause that would choke her and so he lets her eat all that she wants and continually checks up on her.

He isnt sure where it is going to go from here, we are praying she makes it but she is so weak and frail. PLEASE keep the prayers comming and I hope that she sticks it out and remains with us. I will call him tonight (about 6 pm) to check up on her again.

This vet is WONDERFUL...he has farm calls today (goes to people's houses) and he said that he is going to go to like two and then go back and check on her) and then do more and go back and check on her...he stayed up most of the night checking on her...he is the best and I know that if all fails he did all that he could for her.

I pray that it doesnt turn out bad though, but right now it is touch and go

Shuana, Im so sorry to hear about Rowg. If its Dr. Chavez you're talking about he really is a wondeful vet. My gliders love him and he does all he can for your babies. I remember when Fritz got lost in his office. He turned the place inside out and didn't stop searching (knowing he had other clients) until he found little Fritz. He is wonderful and VERY knowledgable. Rowg will do just fine under his care. Please keep us updated!

Taz my heart goes out to you and my prayeres.

Can you post the vets name and maybe put him in the vet list? We are always looking for good vets that really care. This could help someone else since there are so many gliders around you.

Please keep up posted.

Ok, Just heard from the vet...

Its not good...She is going downhill fast and probably wont survive the night

He is afraid that she got Diabetes from breeding this last time and since she is so little and so little is known about these little guys/gals the prognosis isnt well at all.

The vet said that he was holding her in his hand (and she is not tame and wouldnt normally put up with it). He said that she is blowing bubbles out of her nose and just is doing bad.

He said that it sounds just like Diabetes since she would energize as soon as getting liquid and food and then go downhill straight after that...he said that we are going to have to make a decision on what to do but Im afraid she wont survive the night and if she does...Im going to have to do the unbearable and have my best glider friend put to sleep to end her pain and trails.

Im signing off for now....My heart is hurting and Im not thinking straight...Thanks everyone...Keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Don't give up on her!! Miracles do happen! I will continue to pray for you and your baby! If she passes over the Rainbow Bridge, I hope you find comfort in the fact that she loved you very much and at least she knew a lot of love in her lifetime and had an excellent quality of life while she was here. A lot of animals don't even have that. At least if she goes she won't be in pain anymore. I am praying for a complete recovery for her though. Hang in there!
