[:"pink"] [/] the lady im getting a glider from (who seems very nice and knowledgeable of gliders) says we should get a heating pad the size of an index card to put in the bottom of the cage wrapped in an old sock with the cord taped with electrical taped for the joey until its 6 months of age. is this really needed?

I think so, since your baby was getting its heat from its mommy and/or daddy, they need warmth. I would think they are like human babies- they cannot reallly regulate their body heat until more mature.

I could see this for one removed too young from its parents but from the research I've done once they are 8 weeks old you shouldn't need anything like this anymore... and I'd be worried about hazards of something electrical in the cage... maybe someone who has more experience can post...

How old is this joey you are getting?? If it is ANYWHERE under 8 weeks OOP, PLEASE do NOT get it. If it is older than 8 weeks oop then NO a heating pad is NOT needed and all you need is some warm cozy pouches with some blankies inside. Using a heating pad can be a very dangerous thing and should only be used in emergency situations when a hospital cage needs to be made up, or one looses heat during the winter months and it is freezing.
Also, please do not put socks in with your glider.
