Hi everybody. I bought my Kirara last Wednesday and she didn't want to play and slept day and night untill Friday when I decided to get her a friend. So on Saturday I bought a male named Kuroro. But he is so agressive... He doesn't allow us to take him on our hands. And at first he bit Kirara on her nose. I was so afraid that they were going to fight. But at the end everything was ok. Kirara and Kuroro don't drink water or as you all said they drink while I am sleeping... But I also don't know what to feed them. At the first day I gave her apple. She loved it at the second day I gave her pear. She likes pear more than apple. But at the second day her poop started to get wet. When I purchased them from the store, both have dry poops, but now both have wet poops. I asked the woman who sold them to me, she asked me to give them corn and cat food, but Kirara doesn't want to eat it. She will only eat pear, apple and Honey. I tried melon, but she didn't like. I always had a lot of dogs, but their behavior are totally different and I really don't know how to handle Sugar Gliders. Can anybody help me? Oh! And I clean their cage twice everyday. And I noticed that they were getting more stressed... I am wondering how to keep everything clean without washing away the scent they left on the cage and on the cloths I left inside.

they are getting stressed because of you cleaning it so often, they need to smell their own scent to feel "at home" i suggest only cleaning it like every 1 or 2 weeks. I also suggest that you use BML or another proven diet, most pet stores that sell gliders don't take care of them properly and don't really care about what their nutrition should be. If they are caged together i suggest that you take one and put it in the other cage because they can eventually fight to the death. If you need any help with anything you can pm me and ill try to help you out with it.If you want I'll give you some of the basics. HTH

My daughter when a baby had to drink pear juice for constipation. What I'm getting at is maybe the pear is the culprit and making the bowels too loose.

Judy, you can clean the cage about once a week. If you need to clean in between, just a wet washcloth (water only) and wipe it down. Clean the toys once a week, on a different day than the cage, then clean the pouches on still another day. I don't use anything in the cage tray, and I clean that every day. They need to be on a proven diet, and once they are on a good diet, the smell will improve. Also, you mentioned he is kind of aggressive to you, I suggest going to the section titled bonding and relations. Read as many posts there as you can, you will learn a lot in a short period of time about how to bond with your gliders. If you educate yourself about them, and take the time with them, they are a wonderful pet. I'm so sorry the person you bought them from didn't take some time and give you information on them, but you will find ton's of it here. Good luck! And welcome to GC! Ask as many questions as you need.

Thanks so much guys, Yesterday I spent the whole day here at GC to learn more about them. At the beggining I didn't get used to them... And thought about giving them back, but I couldn't coz really love them at first sight. Kuroro is not so mad anymore. He got used to my socks and this morning I toke him on my hand thinking it was Kirara, but he was ok. He didn't got angry at me. Can notice that they are not so stressed anymore since I didn't wash the cage since Sunday... But the poops are still wet. After some research I found in GC a recipe for BML diet. I made it last night and as always he eats everything he finds. Kirara sniffed around until I go to bed then I saw her eating it. This morning there were still some let overs... But at least I am not worried about her food anymore. I am only concerned about their wet poop. Let's see if until tomorrow it will get drier... I will also look for some insects tonight for them. Hope they will eat... Thanks so much for all your advise.

With both gliders now being wet... my suggestion is to have both of them checked for wellness by a knowledgeable vet ASAP.

Well I agree with Judie, a vet check is needed. I have seen some with wet poo at first, stress related, but is usually gone by the second day. Now with both runny, you need to take them in.

I am so glad you spent the day here yesterday. I was like you with my first glider, got him and then did some reading. Boy I didn't know how much I didn't know, till I found GC. sounds like you have chosen a good diet, BML, that should improve their health.

I was worried about one thing though, and maybe I am misunderstanding you

Quote:

He got used to my socks

What does that mean?

If it means you have given them socks, in their cage, you really need to take them out. Sock material is just too lose, threads are too easily pulled and can quickly catch a nail, then as they twist to get nail out, the can end up getting a whole foot caught, eventually causing great trauma.

If you used socks to hold them with (I am just guessing her) because your scared, don't be. Their little bites don't hurt for long and they need your touch to know your safe. Try dipping your fingers in some melted bml, offer one finger to them durring the day, a few inches from their face. They will get closer on their time, and eventually lick it off. You can do this with baby food fruit and veggies too. If they are biting you, buy a cheap plastic thimble and put that on your finger tip first, then dip and offer them a licky treat. It won't take them long to realize they don't need to bite to get the treat, only lick. Once they have that mastered, take the thimble off and do it with a naked finger.

If your using the socks (dirty) to give them your scent. Just buy some cheap fleece, it's like $6.00 a yard and you only need a few inches. Cut it in strips, and if your a woman, stick a strip under your bra, wear it all day, and then stick it in their pouch. Do this everyday with a new strip. They will learn your scent quickly and safely this way. If your a guy, I guess just stick the strip in your pocket, and follow the instructions above.

OK, that's enough about the socks. LOL

Again, a quick vet trip to check their stool is where you should start, you really want to make sure they are healthy.

Welcome to GC.

Wow.... Well... about the socks, I use them to pick Kuroro up, coz Kirara is very fine. I can pick her without any trouble, but Kuroro bites everytime when something goes inside that cage. So yes... I am afraid of their bites coz At the frst 2 days Kirara bit me twice. And she didn't really bit with all her strengh. But Kuroro is very agressive. But now after a few days I can catch him with the socks and them I can take it down and hold him without it. Having some little improvements... :-) About the poops.... I was so morried about it, so I called the girl so sold them to me and she insisted on asking me to give them a canadian brand of cat food. She said that the only cat food that has all what they need. Well... at first my heart almost broke when they starved the whole night... But them after one hour when I came back Kuroro had eaten all the cat food I put the night before. That let me very happy, but I was still worried about Kirara. She didn't want to eat cat food. So at evening I went to a store near my house and bought some worms... We cut it into pieces and put in the bowl. Kirara loved the worms... She spent the night eating worms and Kuroro spent the night eating cat food. He doesn't like the worms yet. Let's see if today he is going to eat it. Kirara's poop seems to be drier since yesterday But not as dry as when she came from the store. But Kuroro's is still wet. Is that because he drink too much water??? Coz I can see him drinking all the time.... morning and night. SHould I use something to rub him to pee???? Well, Kirara likes when I use a tissue paper to rub her behind, then she will start peeing and pooping... Should I do the same with Kuroro??? Or there is no such thing???? It is so terrible... I used to have hamsters in Brazil but it is still too diferent... I am so worried... I will give only worms today and tomorrow I will let you know what happened to them. Thanks so much to be with me and giving me all these precious advises.

I would still not suggest cat food. It can cause lump jaw and it is very unlikely that it has EVERYTHING they need in there because if it did, i am sure someone from here would have found it by now. Did you uy from a pet store? Pet stores usually don't know how to take care of them. And corn isn't good to give them every night either, it is too high in something (cant remember what its called)and should only e given once a week or so. Please keep on giving them the bml recipe and in a few days, with vegis and fruit, they should get better.

??????? Oh My!!!!! Couldn't on line these few days... And since the last time I've been giving them corns... They got much more better... About the cat food i was also not very sure if could give them or not coz Sugar glider are not cat. So I stopped giving them cat food. The BML they like it very much, but I guess maybe I put too much of something and their poop became watery (without the poop form). Yesterday I toke them back to the store where I bought them coz there is a vet in there. but they said they are very fine. They are active and doing very well. The problem about the poop is the mess they leave in the cage. And by the way Kuroro now is doing very well with me. But he doesn't like strangers very much. I will try some vegies and fruits in these few days and let's see if they are going to get better.

I am so happy... They are now very fine. Their poops are nice again. I gave them corns for a few days and after that I started giving them ingredients of the BML. Yesterday I gave them just the baby cereal and they are still fine. Today I am giving them baby food (mix vegetable from Heinz) let's see if everything will be ok... Hope so. Thanks very much for the help of all.

My suggestion is to blend the BML ingredients in a blender as instructed in the reciepe. Do hope you purchased the calcium and multivitamin supplements that are to be added to the mix.

Still suggest a wellness check by a vet. Need to be sure your little ones are not sick from a parasite or bacterial issue.

As for the Pet Store... once the sale is final you are on yor own with the animal you just purchased.
