So my suggie MoMo and I tried out tent time for the first time today... The thing is. I sat in the dark for an hour and a half with him in his pouch and he never came out. He normally wakes up at about 7 so i took him in at about 7. I even tried putting a treat at the mouth of his pouch to let him know its okay to come out but he wouldnt even come and get the treat... And then when i picked everthing up and fed him and put his pouch in the cage he came right out and started playing... am i doing something wrong? cry

If this was his first time in the tent he could be just scared right now. Are there any toys, pouches, or things in there that have his scent on them? This will help with for him to feel a little less intimidated with the new set up. I would just take things one day at a time. It takes time for some gliders to adjust to a new place. I have one glider who is still leary of coming out to play and he's been in the tent for almost a year now.
I wouldn't worry, just be patient and go at his pace. Good luck and keep us posted.

He will come around, I would do the same thing again tomorrow night and eventually he will come to realize that its safe in the tent...he's just a little scared thats all.

I finally had to squeeze one of mine out of her pouch like a toothpaste tube LOL! I slowly rolled the bottom of the pouch up and she eventually crawled right out but it took maybe four times in the tent for her to come out.

Keep up the good work thumb he will come around!

I'll keep trying. I've been using a decent sized bathroom right now because the tent i bought is WAY smaller then i thought it was. oops. So i have to go buy a new one...

And yes all the toys in there are toys he's had in his cage and the blankets i layed down I sleep with so they all had my scent which he has come pretty used to considering i wear him in his bonding pouch all day and sleep with fleece and put a new "scented" piece in his sleeping pouch.

You're doing great! It was not a tent time failure unless you have given up on him. =]

It's going to take some time, that's all. Keep bringing him into the tent every night. His curiousity will get the better of him and he will eventually come out and explore. Just lie the pouch down and keep it open. I don't do tent time in total darkness...usually where the tent is, I leave the kitchen light on, so its not too bright, but not total dark either. I am able to watch tv in the tent, so try positioning the tent towards the tv. If you sort of ignore him, he will venture out and see what's going on.

Yeah its not necessary for you to sit in total darkness. lol Please turn a light on! wink I would not say that he doesnt like you. I would say he is feeling unsafe in the tent. And then when he's put back in the cage he feels comfortable so he jumps out and plays. Work with him and kind of coach him along to show him the tent is fun and safe to play in too! =]

We just had our forth or fifth tent time last night and it was the first time I didn't have to bribe him with mealies to come out and play. It just takes time. I have days were I have just decided that he never is going to completly trust me then i remember " give it more time". Hope everything works out for you.

Mine won't play during tent time. He just huddles on me or next to me or tries to get under my legs and sits there and looks around. He's still scared I guess. frown

Congrats on his little cage mate! Don't forget to keep her quarantined for the 30 days to make sure she isn't carrying anything that will get your little guy sick.

It takes time with bonding...I go slow anyhow but I still have one little girl who I have had since October of last year and she still will not let me pet her or hold her. she takes treats from me and she will climb on me and chirp in my ear in the tent but as soon as I try and touch her or even look at her when she's on my shoulder, she scoots away.

I know she doesn't fear me because she never crabs or lunges - I think she just isn't too keen on being picked up just yet..she doesn't trust me completely yet.

Keep up the good work and DON'T GIVE UP!

So we all have our little ones who have issues smile

I wont give up. Him and all the stuff to make him happy was to expensive to just give up. roflmao I read somewhere that them having a cagemate will make it easier for them to accept, trust, and bond to you. Is this true? dunno

I remember the first time I tried tent time with Andre',my first glider. He was doing so great at coming to me out of the cage, not crabbing at me when I carried him around in a pouch all day and was even letting other people hold him. so I decided it was time to try a tent. I climbed in, pulled him out of the pouch, set him down in front of me and watched expectantly. His reaction was NOT what I expected tho! He froze, looked all around the tent, looked up at me then jumped straight up, onto my face. Peeling him off was not a pleasant experience! I learned gliders can jump straight up and to slow down on the tent time thing. After the painful face hug, I brought my laptop into the tent with me and would check my email while wearing the pouch around my neck. After a couple of months, he decided if mommy wasn't scared, he shouldn't be either. He climbed out of his pouch so slowly, I thought he was part sloth! But, out of the pouch he came, carefully and thoroughly inspecting everything in the tent, even tho his toys, pouches and favorite foods were in there. Now, he loves tent time and hops, jumps and climbs all over it and me!
No matter what you do, you have to go at their pace and wait for them to learn they can trust you.

Don't get discouraged. We have to learn that bonding has to go at their pace and it can be hard when you feel like your babies dont like you. My male is not at sweet as my female and I sometimes think he just doesnt like us...but then he'll do something that makes me believe that he just needs a bit more patience and time. Good Luck and keep up the good work. Keep us posted!
