I just got a new girl glider to go with my other single girl. We are in the process of bonding with the new glider and I notice that after we are all done playing I get hives all over me where she walked. I don't react to my first glider and was just curious what it could possibly be. I didn't know if it might be due to the former home that my new glider came from of if there is a inherent difference between the two gliders. If anybody knows anything about this it would be great!

I have the same problem with one of my girls. The slightest touch and I get welts. It has something to do with the proteins? It was suggested to me to wash her nails prior to playing. (Of course, I'd rather keep my fingers, but... ) I also use a hand wash immediately after playing, but that doesn't always help.

Sugar gliders can carry bacteria on their nails. And if their nails are allowed to grow too long they puncture your skin as they walk on you. So keeping their nails trimmed is essential.

I have this same problem too. I handle my 2 gliders with gloves now when I get them out and put them in their play tent. Even with their nails clipped, any contact they have with my skin causes me to have a small red welt wherever the nail touches, and itches like crazy. I always wash with antibacterial soap afterwards if my skin is touched anywhere, but it seldom works.
Of course, I am allergic to absolutely everything except for food so this is just one more thing to add to the list. It kills me to be allergic to them

I swear by topical Benadryl gel. You put it on the hives/welts afterwards, it stops the histamine reaction and makes the itching and swelling go down in a couple minutes max. We're also allergic to absolutely everything here.
