ok so today i went to the county fair (in miami,fl) and was having a great time until i run into a stand with a bunch of people all round and it was Pocket Pets.....
i wanted to see what they were telling people about suggies, so i didnt say anything about having one.... the flipping lies and false info they were giving people was crazy....

-they have no smell, not even when they go to the bathroom...
-they follow commands
- one glider i ok you dont need 2, as long as they get attention (so i asked what is the attention they need and they say just to hold them in your pocket a few hours and thats it...)
-when you are home you just open the cage and let them run around the house( i asked if they chew cables and they say no) never mentioned glider proofing anything....
- they need heat rocks to regulate their temp...
- they NEVER need to go to the vet
- you only will need to spend $8 a month, and $50 a year with a glider as a pet
-ALL gliders are born gray and black and some change colors when they are older

they had pictures of sugggies eating with two cats, it looked like cat food...
they said that they eat ALL fruits and vegys (never mentioned what was toxic)and some dry food they sell....

so what they were selling was a "package"
-a SMALL CAGE(say you dont need to get a bigger one thats just fine for them).
-heat rock
-dry food
-h2o bottle
-a suggies that they claimed was 8 wks but like WAY TOOO SMALL.....

all for $389.00

when i got to the stand someone had just brought a suggie with the "package" , and idiots from Pocket Pets put the joey in a lil brown box...

after that i saw some lady begging her boyfriend to buy her one and quietly walked up to her and told her not to buy from them, they sell sick babies, and not care about the gliders, to please do some research and she didnt get one....

i wanted to grabbed the cage with the joeys and run away....

well, i got some pictures of the'' package", the TINY joey, and the glider they had in their hand to show people...

the one they had out, that changed color because "you never know what color they will be cause it changes with they get older"
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm108/debys_suggies/CIMG1002.jpg

the "package" with a heat rock
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm108/debys_suggies/CIMG1003.jpg

this is the cage thats big enough.. YEA RIGHT...
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm108/debys_suggies/CIMG1024.jpg

the poor TINY "8wk old" joey
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm108/debys_suggies/CIMG1005.jpg

again the joey ( he told me that they dont like people take pictures but he let me)

Looking at that picture, that joey is no older than 4 weeks oop. I have a joey here right now that is just 3 weeks oop and is larger than that one.

Apparently math is not their strong point? Perhaps this is why they can't figure out how old a joey actually is? Because they just make numbers up?!? How do they figure $8 a months is $50 a year? 8 x 12 = 96.

Good job Debbie! I am glad I didn't go to the fair and see them. I was at a meeting last night. I had my suggies on me. People know I carry them and wanted to see them. One of the ladies asked me to see the pouch in my shirt, because her friend just got one. AT THE YOUTH FAIR "Perfect Pocket Pets" I wanted to scream. I told her I hope the baby was ok and if her friend needed anything to call me.

I was really upset.

We saw them opening night. At least you did not mention him claiming the glider was "trained" as he pulled its tail to go down his shirt. Scared the poor thing to death! There was such a crowd opening night - I was standing in the back in fear of loosing my self control when someone noticed my tatto - it is a tribal glider and only recognizable with the real thing in front of you or to a glider slave...anyway some people started asking questions and the simple words "mill breeder" had everyone walking away from the back - and I wasn't even the one that said it. I meerly suggested and people got the idea and were discusted. Hubby pulled me and my sis in law (glider slave as well) before we were noticed by the sellers...now we get to sit back and wait for the rescues to come in a few months - well the ones that survive at least...poor babies.

Arg. That's so sick. frown Down with (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets!!

I love the sign in the background that says gliders don't bite. So, what's going to happen if someone gets their kid a glider and it bites them? The changing colors bit was entertaining. Yes, your glider will turn from being moderetly stained to heavily stained due to our "diet" and we didn't tell you how to clean their cage and toys. That's normal.

Hey, does (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets go to Utah? A friend of mine recently got 2 female gliders for his gf and an unneutered male for his dad and said that I'm wrong about how to care for them. The breeder must be right because his gliders are fine! He said something about they were told to feed them bug pellets. Probably Bugs N' Berries?

How about the part where the sign says "Sugar gliders normally get along GREAT with most other pets, including aggressive breeds of cats and dogs."

So has anyone ever called their bluff at these kinda things?? After getting fed all the lies, the general public will get the babies (that are too young first off) and take 'em home not having a clue about gliders, and only believing the lies that were fed to 'em at a place like that.

It would be a REAL bad idea for me to come face to face with 'em cause I wouldnt be able to stand there and let them lie to these ppl. I'd ask questions in front of the crowd that would stop (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets in their tracks and leave 'em standing there with their mouths hangin open cause they wouldnt be able to say anything else!! tant Its soooo frustrating!!! tant

No way is that joey 8 weeks! Looks about 3-4! I bet they take them that young because they are less likely to bite and hurt!! This is awful! They have to be put out of business (or at the vety least find a way to get the correct info out so people will think before buying from these monsters!)

I know people here who have bought gliders have posted about them. Could you print those out? I know it is he said/she said, but it may help. I mean, car dealers are not allowed to sell cars they KNOW have issues (or that is how it is supposed to be.) I mean, not to compare a car to a living, breathing creature, but my point is, they are selling gliders that are too young, are sick, giving wrong info. They have to be made to stand accountable.

Has anyone who has gone to these fairs and seen them (and KNOW what they are about), stood up and asked them 'what about all the sick gliders that you sell that have died? Can you explain that to me?' I am sure that will get people listening attention. Those joeys are either way too young or their parents are in such rough shape, it is more like a case of 'failure to thrive' (if they say they are 8 weeks).

It would be great if this vet would help in any way he could, as he has seen it first hand the damage they do.

I may go to the Seminole County Fair and the Orlando Fair Grounds Fair. I think I'm gonna take a list of real sugar glider information and if I see them. I'm going to find the nearest officer and hope to God he can do something. I'll bring my iPod as well if he or she wants to see what I'm saying is true (I have the iPod Touch, so I can access the internet) THEY MAKE ME SO MAD!!!!!!! cry

I think many people would like to do this. I myself would. But all that would do is get you thrown out and Pocet Pets would just go back to selling. You may get the attention of other people, so they won't buy. But their either gonna think nothing of you because you got thrown out of the park an your crazy or they will leave, but they won't tell anyone else because they don't want to be kicked out. So more people would just come and buy.... It's sad but true... cry

Anita - that is the problem I've had. People aren't documenting.

They buy a sick glider, then don't get it to the vet for 2 weeks. By that time, there is no proof that the glider was sold sick.
