I am pretty sure that throwing up is a sign that something is wrong. I am sorry I can't help you out more but someone should definently get back to you very quickly. Keep him warm for right now til you hear better advice.

Throwing up is never a good sign, especially if he is not even keeping water down.
You need to get him in to see a vet today rather than waiting until Monday. Please don't wait till monday ...

I have tried both exotic vets in my area,,, neither are open after 4 on sat... I left messages,, we have 2 emergency animal hospitals but I was warned not to use them unless it was absolutely neccessary ,, they do not have any experience with suggies at either. He is settling down to sleep now,,, and he has not thrown up again,, we have extra blankets in his bag and he is sleeping with his mom and dad atm ,,, he wont drink more,,, He did pee and poo all over us before he went back to bed,, and that looked normal,,, what should we watch for and anything else we can do until a vet calls me back?

my vet called and suggested we give him pedialyte ..he is out of town but said to watch for dehydration,, like said here ...thanks Karen =) He said if he isnt better in a few hours ,, or if he shows signs of dehydrating to take him to the emergency hospital and have them call him. (promised he would take the call) update : He drank alot of the pedialyte ..no more throwup and cuddled up with mom and dad,,, we are watching him close,, thank you everyone who answered,,, I was feeling so lost ..you all are great.

Gliders can go downhill so very quickly once they show symptoms. Since you have two emergency animal hospitals, please use one. If he's dehydrated and can't keep fluids down, they may need to administer sub-q fluids. There are a few glider-knowledgeable vets who will consult with other vets, should the need arise. ...Ah, thanks for the update! Glad he's keeping down the Pedialyte. And it does indeed seem like you have a great vet. If he's not in our Vets Database, please add his information when you get a chance.

Once you get this little guy taken care of, you might also look into a more balanced diet. Other than the mealworms, I don't see much protein in there - and mealworms don't have a bunch of protein, but do have a lot of fat. Here's a link to some diets for you to check out. Feeding Your Joeys & Adult Gliders. I would say the three most popular ones are the BML, HPW, and Sugar Glider Exotic diet (also known as the Pet Glider diet or the Priscilla Price diet). Please keep us updated on your little boy.

All of my babies are on the suncoast diet ... any diet requiring egg did not work for us,,, mine simply HATE eggs and would rather starve,,, They get mealworms, baby cereal, chicken or turkey , and yogurt ,,,not all at once,, but those protein sources they will eat. They get calcium and vitiman supplements and gliderade ... I listed what he actually ate before he got sick,,, He and his parents were actually a rescue,,, they smelled really bad when we got them ,, and after a few weeks on the suncoast diet they all smelled better and looked better,, esp their fur... about the only place we differ from suncoast diet is in the dry food always available,,, we use glider complete for that from exotic nutrition. UPDATE: he played like crazy tonight even thou we tried to keep him on the calm side,,, he drank more pedialyte and is showing no signs of dehydration.. He ate only 2 mealworms thou and turned his nose up to everything else,,, I am hoping he will eat more tonight. He has not thrown up again since I first posted. To be on the safe side ,, he sees the vet monday even if he doesnt need to. I am a paranoid mommy ,,,,

Well my little one had his vet visit ,, and it wasnt at all what I was thinking or the vet! Apparently my little boy likes to clean his family WAY WAY to much,,,, he had hairballs! The vet had to put him under to check into his mouth and throat,, and wow,,, newton's tongue(which is way longer than I imagined )was covered in fur,, he had fur in his throat and while the vet was putting him under to examine him he threw up more,,, fur! well an hour later we were on the way home ,,, vet informed me that every 3rd day I need him to lick some vasoline so it doesnt happen again ..*pout* until he stops with his constant cleaning fetish. Other than that the vet was impressed with his progress since we got him from the rescue and said we have a beautiful healthy little boy,, YAY Thanks everyone who helped this past weekend

I would be VERY concerned about my glider licking vasaline. It is petrolium based and can NOT be good for the glider. IF somehow your glider gets any of that into his lungs, it will kill him (why you should NEVER use mineral oil...baby oil with gliders, use vegitable oil). I would call some other vets to ask about the vasaline before using it with gliders.

You can use Laxatone (believe that is the name of if) for cats. My vet had told me I could use that.

Laxatone is vasoline ,,, and I read both packages ,, they are the same laxatone is just flavored,,, I called the other sugar glider vet in our area,, told him everything and he agrees with my vet,,,, alittle of it wont hurt him and I have very little choice,,, not eating and throwing up is worse for him and we cant keep putting him under to clean out his throat,,,,, Now I am worried all over again,, both vets here treat many gliders and are even listed on the vet list here! ack now what do I do?

If you feel comfortable with what your vet and another vet has suggested than I would follow what you were told. Just make sure that you give him a very very small amount and only once a day.

They said once every 3rd day should be enough to prevent needing to put him under and take the fur out again,,, they dont think its good to put an animal under anastia(sp) if it can be prevented. They also both said they have never seen this happen with gliders before,, and that they have seen hundreds of gliders each ,,, its unusual behavior ,,, figures,, I always get the wierd pets! I wish there was something else I could use since it alarmed people here,,, Thanks for answering thou,,, I do trust my vet.. wish I wasnt so green about suggies,, I question everything I do....
