Alright, I have a problem and am not sure what to do........

I have a male that likes to mate aggressively. I had him neutered about a year ago and it did help I did not have any more issues. Before he was neutered he had ripped open the back of his mates neck. It was horrible! Well, I just noticed that his mate has the same wound again today!!!!!!!!

I suppose I am going to have to separate him permanently??? They are both in with one other young male (he is neutered as well). But I know that this wound was from him, not the younger male. I was thinking of separating the female and possibly trying to introduce her to my other colony (not sure how that will go, but will try). I dont think this guy can be with other females. So I'll leave the two neutered males together. I dont know why he is so aggressive!

I plan on bringing the female to work with me and will have to call the vet to get in there asap today. She will be separated until she heals and then I'm hoping my plan will work (about intro-ing her to the other colony).

Unless anyone else has any other ideas???

I think at this point, that is your only choice, as you can't put him in with the other girl, either. I am so sorry. Some are just this way. I hope she will be ok. If I can do anything, let me know. Keep me posted how she is doing. I think I need to call Dr. Strake, I think I may have a UTI brewing with Oliver!! He was making 'the noise' last night (the weird noise Petey was making, not the hissing, when trying to go potty). So.......I know he did pee (I touched his cloaca with my finger to make sure he could). I worry about the anal glands I think, because I think that was the big problem with Petey. We will see, but I am will be heading down there soon myself!

You will need to keep her completely separated from other gliders until the fur starts to grow back in over the wounded area. I know you've already dealt with this last year, but the fur growing in is the crucial indicator that the wound has healed internally as well as externally thumb Your decision to separate her from the neutered males and introduce her to the other colony is an excellent one, too. I hope all goes well. Please keep us updated on her progress hug2

So the vet put her under to clean up the wound and suture it. It was pretty grody. The needed to clean it up a bit. They gave her a shot of antibiotics plus gave me some to bring home.

She's really a trooper. Not a peep out of her. She's in her cage all alone, but doing well.

She was really cute when she woke up from being put under. And she snuggled right up to me as soon as the tech brought her out.

Of course everyone in the office waiting started ohhing and ahhing and asking what she was. I really wasnt in the mood to explain. I was just happy to have my baby back and that she was OK. I just wanted to get her meds and get her home.

Sorry I did not see this sooner … and been there done this …

Long story short … I had a Male (mango) that even after neuter and many months he still wants to rip the females neck open … it is terrifying … I know .. three times here … I decided that he can NEVER be with a female again .. he now lives very happy with new other neutered brothers … and the girl is still with her neutered brother .. so things are well here …

I'm glad you were able to get her into the vet's right away for debriding of the wound and antibiotics thumb I will be praying for her continued recovery hug2

Thanks everyone! Now lets just cross our fingers that once she's recovered she will be able to be intro'd to the other colony. Thats my only concern. Although, she's a very good glider. The other male that lived with her and her mate was recently intro'd the end of last summer. And she did great with him. She "mothered" him right away. LOL. So its not so much HER, but the other colony. I havent attempted to intro the other colony to anyone yet because they had a joey.

And thanks XGlider, at least I dont feel so alone on this issue. This didnt happen for at least a year......this is the second (and last) time it happened. *SIGH*

You're definitely not alone shakehead I had a mother/daughter pair in a trio a few years ago. The male caused a mating wound on the mother so I separated her from them. When I thought it was healed, I put the mother & daughter back together. The daughter reopened the wound 3 times over the course of a year frown I finally had to separate the daughter from the mother permanently. I was able to introduce the mother to another single female and they've been together with no problems ever since. The daughter is now a loner because every time I've tried to introduce her to other gliders, she won't accept them. She has a VERY Alpha personality...
