plastic is the way to go.since you will be washing often. here on the forum go to main index and look under glider things. there are alot of people that sell toys for gliders.

You could always look in the baby section in stores for safe baby toys... ummm yard sales, thrift stores, etc are good places to find cheap safe toys.
You just wanna watch for anything they might be able to pull off and eat, or choke on ... make sure the item isnt toxic (some woods are... and some plastics are), NO catnip, make sure there arnt tiny spots that fingers and toes might become tangled or caught in/on, etc etc...

A good idea might be to check out some of the old posts in Housing and Accessories... you might come across some really good ideas in there! Or check out the gallery and look at some peoples pictures, that might give ya some ideas.
If you ever have a question about a toys safety, dont use it. Or, come in here and ask, theres bound to be someone that might know or have some advice about the safety of an item.

Lots of little things around the house could be used as well. Like small hard plastic kitchen bowls, hand torn plain white paper (in a bucket or bowl, etc, to rummage through and play in), hard plastic spoons (my 'kids' like it when I dip them in applesauce or something healthy and yummy for them to carry around and lick...lol.), just look around your house as well, if it looks safe and isnt something that could be toxic, try it! You never know what these little ones may find fun!

I had a post on here about ideas for toys and ended up making my own...

I could also make you some. I have no life and use the time to make suggie toys a time to cure boredom. LOL

PM me if you're interested. My toys are on Ebay as we speak under ID: TinaAndBensGliderToys

Have a good day!

another new toy for our girls is a hangar swing.. they love it.. Bill hung a hard plastic hanger in the tent and they can make it move as they run on it!

Yes, this can, they can get it wrapped around them and their weight won't let them get out. I use strings like that only in the tent or bathroom, supervised. Ribbons are better, they don't catch on themselves, they're slippery.

What about yarn? Can you use that in toys?

no that shouldn't be used as toys. I sell toys for gliders made with the plastic rope that's used for lanyards.

Not the lanyard. It is usually covered with beads, so they can't get to it.

If its not covered with beads, or it stretches over time... Your gliders will chew on it and love to dump their beads all over the cage!

I string beads on ribbons since they don't stretch... the same ribbons I use in tent toys anyway- they love to climb them adn pull on them... and use those with other things to make toys, but I have a bunch of specially made plastic parts a friend with a laser cutter made for us! The girls love some of the combinations and ignore others, but they are easy enough to both make and modify...

For SUPERVISED play, a quick run thru the Dollar Tree will result in lots of cool things. My favorite isle for my gliders it the hair thingy isle. They love batting some of those hair bobs around. I also use sparklely party picks (something I got in my gift bag at the SGGA). For unsupervised play, I have rings and wheels, and hanging rattles and even some wooden bird toys. The wheel is a favorite, but they climb all over the links. Plastic cookie cutters and Barrel of Monkeys are also favorites. Today, I bought some plastic hair curlers for $.49 at Big Lots...8 in a pack, and enough for each of my cages to have one. toys are all over the place. Just make sure you supervise them if there is any plastic/mylar involved. They love mylar, but I like to make sure they don't have it when I'm not around.
