Cage Liners- An Alternative to the Mess!! #53449

I just wanted to share with everyone an alternative to the mess of shavings/ litter/ carefresh/ puppy pads, etc. I have been using a cage liner in all my cages for a while. They are made of three thick layers of fleece and corduroy so they absorb a lot of stink. They are washable so it saves on all the waste of shavings (for all of you environmentally conscious people out there). You can wash and reuse over and over which makes it so easy to clean- just shake it off and throw it in the machine! They have pet-safe hems also. They come in any size and color specified. You can get them at pinsneedles.com . Hope you enjoy! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yelclap.gif" alt="" />

I don't use anything in my cage pans, I just wash every couple of days. But if I did, this would be it. I've heard of them before, and it sounds like a great idea!

Hmmmm. I would never think that those absorb odor. Very interesting.

Actually I got some scrap astroturf from the carpet outlet, (show a sweet smile, batt your eyelashes and you get a nice length for FREE.. muahahahaha.. ahem) then I cut it to fit the bottom of the cage (no grating, just flat to the pull out drawr surface.) It's an easy cleanup and the plastic like "grass" is fun for them to walk on. Also it's a breeze to clean. Just rinse off with a bit of water and poof. No smells set in or anything. It's great.

The cage liners are super absorbant! The liquid gets pulled into the inner fleece layer and stays there, I suppose it is sortof like a diaper. There is no smell until it is super super saturated, which should never happen unless you don't wash it for months or something. I couldn't imagine that astroturf is absorbant, although free is nice. I think a 2ft by 2ft cage liner is like 8 bucks or something. Last time I ordered I asked for blue and she sent green so make sure to specify it, although the green is nice.

How often do you clean it and do they make any for 3ft by 2.5 ft? Thanks.

How often I clean it really depends on the animal I use it for. For suggies (they make the least mess of all my babies) I spot clean often by shaking it off, but it really doesn't need washing too often, at the most I wash it once a week but really it's not even very dirty yet, so usually it's a bit longer. You can specify whatever size you need (and color).

I just use a few pieces of polar fleece- one at a time, its never soaked through totally.. but I do find it starts to smell after about 3 days, so I just swap and wash...

I'd say the cage liner doesn't get smelly for atleast 2 weeks, I just feel it may be better for them to wash it more.

I hope you like it Joanne! I bet you'll never go back! Oh- since you have 2- Try not to dry the one you are washing. I dried mine and it shrank a little. The funny thing is the next time I didn't dry it and it was normal size again. I guess the corduroy stretched back out in the washing machine! Good Luck!

That's what I was thinking in ordering 2....that I can let one air dry while I replace it with the other. I'll let you know how I like it.

Thanks again for the info.
