Ok, I am extremely ticked off. I have 20 cages from YML that I actually bought from someone on Ebay before I knew that you could order directly from them. Anyway, I spent a lot of money on these cages 6 months ago. They are not even a year old and they are ALL starting to rust. I have a USDA inspector coming out here and a house full of rusting cages. I don't know what to do. I know that I have to replace them all, but I don't even know where to get more without spending a fortune. I don't want to buy any more from YML just to have them rust. I can't be replacing cages every year.

Does anyone else have these cages? If so, have any of your cages rusted? Does anyone know where else to buy good cages reasonably inexpensive, in bulk? It is going to cost a fortune to replace them all.

I hate to say it but that is so depressing… I just got rid of a home made wood cage that got disgusting… I hope I don’t have this issue with the new cage… I hope you can find a solution I am so sorry for this ‘mess’ I hope you find a *easy* solution…

I don't know what to tell you about the YML cages, I'm sorry! I bought my cages from petcagewarehouse (also an ebay seller) - they are powder coated wrought iron and are excellent quality! I haven't had a single problem with them & have had 1 of them for over a year. They are super sturdy & reasonably priced too. They are sold as parrot cages, I'm not sure if this seller lists anything under Sugar Glider. but I highly recommend any of his powder coated wrought iron stuff - Plus, powder coating doesn't absorb urine smell like the PVC coating does!

[:"green"]I suppose it depends on the inspector, but I don't think it will be a problem during your inspection for the cages to be rusty, especially if you explain the circumstances & that you're looking for an affordable way to replace them. Unfortunately, I don't know of any inexpensive cages that don't get rusty with the frequent cleanings that gliders' cages need. Even the expensive ones get rusty. Wish I had better information for you. Sorry...

Could you coat the cages with liquid PVC? Thats only $8 per can, and 1 can would do a cage easy.....you can find it as Tool Dip in the tool dept. of home depot, apply it w/ a brush....

Wow, I've had a YML cage for about 2 years now, no rust or anything of the sort... I'm sorry to hear your cages didn't hold up as well.

Couldn't you get the powder coating spray at a Home Depot or Lowes? If you can find it there, all you would have to do it use steel wool on the bars to remove the rust, prime it with whatever they recommend before the powder, then the powder spray. I know I have seen it before, I just can't remember where. But it would be fairly inexpensive, a little time consuming but as the cages are drying its a good opportunity for tent time!! I would however, try to see if the company would replace them for you. As long as you have the receipt showing when you purchased them, they can't argue that thats not normal to be so rusted in less than a year...

Have you tried to make your own? A little more time consuming, but I promise that you get your moneys worth! You can even make as many as you want. It would be pretty cheap to make... As long as you go to a feed store for the hardware cloth. :o)

Sorry to hear that you're having troubles. :o(
