This is a very controversial topic. smile Many people feel it is ok to feed the cat food (if she is feeding Purina Cat Chow brand cat food, I'd say NO WAY is it good!) IF and only IF it is part of a well researched diet that calls for cat food as the staple. Others feel that feeding cat food is bad under any circumstances. I think everyone would agree that if you are feeding cat food, it needs to be of the highest quality with meat as the main ingredient and it shouldn't include any bi-products.

It is my opinion that feeding the cat food with just fruits and veggies is not a good decision.

smile Hope this helps!

cat food isnt good for a glider because regular cat chow has additives that regulate a cats urinary system which is something gliders dont need. Thats one reason why its not good for a cat to eat dog chow because it doesnt have the additives it needs...Gliders need nutrients that are designed for there needs..and thats why you need to check out the proven diets..I have mine on bml and the vet just said there in great shape.. some of the others are good too...but the cat chow stuff was something I was told from the vet

I agree that feeding just cat food with fruits and veggies may not be the best idea. In particular, you have to be VERY careful about the ratios.

Is CAN be done however, as evidenced by the Caroline MacPherson diet: http://www.angelfire.com/nb/sugarglider/caroline.html

(Note: This diet is burried under the GC diet links, you just have to dig deep enough.)

many years ago this was an acceptable practice. When I purchased my first glider, I was told to fed her Iams...in hindsight I'm glad I didn't keep her on that diet very long. My opinion--cat food is for cats. Gliders are not designed to eat hard foods such as cat food. Hard pelleted or formed foods such as cat food can lead to health problems such as lumpy jaw. Again--just my opinion. There are so many good diets out there that are more suitable for gliders.

Could anyone tell me, what cat food can be given to gliders? They asked a question to me aboutthat in our forum, and I really don't know what to say. (I must confess, I dislike the very idea: after all, cats and gliders are VERY different animals...)

The only one I can think of that might be available in Russia is Purina Pro Plan. It's the top of the Purina line. We feed our cats the weight management formula, which I actually like better than the vet's "specialty" formula, because it has more meat-based protein.

Again, I don't really like the idea of gliders eating cat food, but if they are going to do it, at least use a good one. Make sure the first ingredient is meat and that the crude protein is 30-40% minimum.
