I am not the best when it comes to using a sewing machine. Ever since the 6th grade in Home Ec. class I've been a disaster. I've actually been thinking about getting one so I can sew my suggies pouches now that my number has gone from 1 to 3 in just a weeks time. I have been doing pouch laundry so often and don't think I have enough. Anyone want to give me advice on the best way to sew a cage pouch? I'm more confused as to how I would attach loops for the cage clips. Any help would be much appreciated. And my suggies would like to thank you in advance as well. :o)

I am also really pathetic with a sewing machine. Everyone says that the machine is safer than hand-sewing, but I know for a fact that my hand stitches are MUCH tighter than the machine. But that's probably because I don't know how to USE the machine properly, and I end up with large loops or strings that can easily be pulled out.
Anyway, I didn't attach loops. I just made tiny holes near the top of the pouch and slipped the lanyard hooks through the holes, so the hook is attached directly to the pouch and not an extra loop. But that may wear out faster than if you actually made a loop. Mine don't even sleep in the pouch, so I will probably never know.

HaHa, I too am a disasterous sewer, lol. I found the easiest way for me to do it, actually not easy, but I sewed 2 simple pouches, turned one inside out, then sewed them both together. That way there isn't any open seems. As for the stitching being tight, you can adjust that on the sewing machine. I'll give you a little advice, buy extra material! I think I screwed up the first yard of my material trying to figure out how to do it, lol. Good Luck!

Extra material... Got it. HAHAHA!!!! Man is my b/f gonna have a laugh about this when he sees me trying to sew.
I used to hand sew mine also and just made slits up at the top too b/c my sewing method was tight, but getting thread through 2 layers of fleece is not so fun for my little blisters. :o)
Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm going to see how it goes when I decide to buy a machine this week. (I'll keep you updated with funny stories I'm sure!) :o)

Why don't you take a basic sewing class at a Jo anne fabrics. Tell the instructor what you would like to accomplish and they can give you tips. I am a pretty good sewer, but not masterful. I need to get a basic formula for sewing pouches too. It all takes practice.

I would love to take classes like that, but I have 22 hours of college courses, 25 hours of work a week, 2 outside school organizations, and a ton of homework on top of that. I leave enough time for my zoo and that's about it. If I have the chance I may take your offer. Thanks for the advice, Amanda, that was a great idea!
