My little girl Cinnamon died today. She was fine last night, acting normal--playing, eating, running in her wheel. Then this morning she was just sitting all hunched up on one of the shelves in the cage. She wasn't moving at all--just breathing so hard her little body shook with every breath. I took her to the vet who said it was probably pneumonia -- which is what I thought too. I called the vet this afternoon and was told that Cinnamon was doing much better after they had given her some antibiotics and some IV fluids. They said she was eating grapes, drinking water and juice, and exploring the cage they put her in. Then about 20 minutes later, the vet called and said that she had just died. The vet had taken her out of the oxygen box she was in to examine her and she just 'seized' and died. I stopped at the vet's to pick up some antibiotics to give my other glider just as a precaution in case he had got something from Cinnamon. The vet said she did an autopsy and found that Cinnamon had cancer -- her liver was extremely enlarged, misshapen, and had some lumps on it. Her heart was so enlarged that it crowded her lungs, which was why she was having trouble breathing. Apparently, she had this cancer for quite awhile and I never knew. She never acted sick or out of sorts. Poor little girl -- she was so sweet and friendly. I am going to miss her so much! And I know my other glider, Waylon, will miss her too. What a sad, sad day this is.

Sue, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like you loved her very much and she had a wonderful life. I'm sure she knew how much she was loved and at least she is no longer suffering. My thoughts are with you and Waylon. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" />

Sue, I'm so sorry for your loss... It's hard for me to read these sad stories without crying, which is kind of awkward at the office... You did everything you could, and Cinnamon knows it.

Sue: having lost Tia without any warning to congestive heart failure at the end of January, I know what you're going through. On a positive note though, both Cinnamon and Tia were active right to the end & knew how loved they were. I also applaud you for the courage it took to give the vet permission to do an autopsy. At least you have peace of mind about what caused Cinnamon's death rather than always wondering what happened.

My condolances on the loss of Cinnamon & I will be sure to say a prayer for both you and Cinnamon tonight.
