I've seen the links to the toxic plant list as well as the toxic foods list, but what about everything else. Like pine and dust, and other things to keep sugar gliders away from. Is smoke toxic? Are any kinds of smoke okay?

Here is some info on candles: http://www.glidercentral.net/ubbthreads/...true#Post524603Maybe the unscented kind may be ok...but scented candles are not safe.

Yes, i have definetly read the heavily scented or perfumed products are not good for suggies. I burn candles and incense all the time, and will have to move my altar area to accomadate for when i get my gliders.

I don't burn candles but my mom places those Renuzit Odor Killer pop up scented things all around the house. Are they dangerous? They don't get anywhere near one to eat the gel or anything but I'm concerned about the light odor it gives off.

Thanks for the link. On that forum page, it mentioned about the wicks being lead or zinc and can cause harm. But my scented candles are "Lead-Free Wicks". Are these types of candles safe(r) to use around sugar gliders? What about smoking (not from incense)?

Also, if any kind of substance used to make a room smell good is bad for sugar gliders, what is safe to use around them that could hide their odors?
What is safe to use as a cleaner for cleaning out the bottom of their cage?

PureAyre-it's available at Petsmart/Petco and Suncoast. It is an odor neutralizer but you have to use another product to clean and disinfect. I use METHOD lavander wipes on my cages too.

Scented candles are not good because of the aroma they put into the air. Some gliders have been poisoned/jaundiced from the scents it puts into the air. "Lead-Free Wicks" in unscented candles would be more acceptable as they are not producing scents/funes in the air. As for smoking...it is not good for you, even worse for the people around you...and definitely is not good for your gliders. Think of the lung capacity of a human, now compare that to a glider...I would assume the time for a glider to develop lung cancer due to second hand smoke would be MUCH faster than a human, and completely uncurable. Either they will make you consider making a healthy choice to quit, you will smkoe outside, or you may do it next to them (which I do not advise really)

Oh and as for cleaning I use baby wipes or a wet washcloth. Once in a while I will do a comeplete wash with mild bleach water fully rinse it before allowing gliders to be near the cage again. Oh and those Magic Earasers help with sticky stuff that just won't budge...but you need to clean it off completely after using one of those as well.
I also will not have my gliders on me while I do things like clean the cat box, ever think of all the amonia odor? Horrible.

I understand about the smoking thing. so i will have to make sure its in another room. I've got cats my whole life (mostly 6 at a time) So i understand about the smell. the smoke never harmed any of the cats, and they never stuck around while i was doing it anyway. I'm hoping it will be ok in another room Most baby things seem to be safe for sugar gliders and i will have to buy cleaning items that are safe for babies or this lavender stuff. Do you have any links to sites that sell this kind of stuff?

Pretty sure that Walmart as well as many other stores are carrying cleaners that are non- toxic...this whole new "green" phase you know...lol. I have thought about switching...if it is safer for me and my mini zoo...lol...I've gotta keep bleach in this house though....my cat box needs it regularly...speaking of...I don't wanna go clean that stinky thing...lol. Excessive dust in your home would be bad for your gliders too of course, risk of inhaling it, soaps on your hands are not good, use onlyalcohol free baby wipes, careful with toys that could contain lead/lead paint, stuffing or beans inside stuffed animals or things you may put in the cage are bad, styrofoam is hazardous if ingested, uncooked rice...man the things I am thinking of...lol.

I use pee pads on the bottom of the tray, they last MUCH longer that carefresh for me. Both work though, so it is a preference thing. I know that Walmart carries METHOD products but I ordered my stuff off of their website. They have a huge line of green non- toxic products, I still need to check out the Walmart selection cause shipping was SUPER expensive!

Yea, Walmart is going to be my first stop for lots of stuff. Especially the baby section not just for the wipes, but for the toys! I think i read somewhere that those weewee pads are toxic if the gliders grab them and pull them into the cage and shred them up.
