So my hubby came to me and said, "There is nothing in the toilet that I wanna catch! Can we please do something about your fishing net?"

Course he was refering to the toilet ladder I put in there to protect our babies. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" />

Does anyone have any solutions to "fix" this issue so I don't find the ladder in the trash can? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinkerg.gif" alt="" />

Oh! lol I thought of putting one in there too! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />(just in case someone forgot to close the lid) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> ..how did you do it? I mean, without it getting ummm...icky? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nixweiss.gif" alt="" /> I wish I knew of something else, but hubby thought I was nuts enough to think of a ladder..lol We don't let the "kids" go in there, but, well..you never know and have to be prepared! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" />

Come to think of it...one of those mesh bags..say a laundry bag..isn't a bad idea..just have to figure out how to "swing" it back and forth to use the potty! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" />

We make it a habit of keeping our toilet lid closed at all times. My husband has been a long-time, very knowledgable glider owner and he complies with the rule gladly. My three teenage daughters, not to mention their friends, would think we were weird when they saw a ladder in our toilet so we do not use it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" />

Well, yes, the seat is kept down in my house too - but we do have company & mistakes happen. I would hate for anything to happen to my kiddos because Mommy didn't like "catching" things.

Gina...what about a mesh net attached to a piece of wood or plastic "ring"...the shape of a toilet seat? ..to make a THIRD seat so to say? (it would be the first one..) of course, it would still have to be put down like the other two..unless...lemme work on this..

[:"blue"]I'm not getting a very good mental image of this third mesh seat <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> but that doesn't mean someone won't come up with something that will work.

Like, Jennifer, we keep our seats down at all times. For times when guests are in the house, we have a very tasteful caligrophied card which is placed on the toilet tank lid stating ... In order to protect our pets, please lower the lid.

May seem a little extreme but it works. You can print your own and use one of the picture easels for a stand or just fold an index card in half and print your message on the front side. [/]

Badgersmommy, good luck! I keep thinking that for this to work, it has to be self closing or be on there all the time, but I am seeing a problem with solids, and paper. Maybe instead of something that covers the toilet, have the seat and lid be self closing, and then have a way to seal around the edges so gliders can't slip in between?

I've noticed the same problem with the ladder. I hesitated to put it in there to begin with too. But Sheila's stats about the toilet being the #1 killer (or at least way up there) kept invading my thoughts til I got it out of my SGGA stuff and put it in. I thought my hubby would tell me to take it out, but he just asked what it was for, and I told him and he said okay. I keep wondering when he's going to complain about the "catching effect".

I did find that if you move it around, you can find a spot where it's less likely to catch. I wish it had been made out of white mesh instead of black. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohwell.gif" alt="" /> But just the fact that many of us are using it who might not otherwise have done it will probably save lives, so thank you to whosever idea it was to give them out.

I never heard of a toilet ladder before. I`m trying to picture what they look like but this sounds like a great idea! Where can these be purchased?

Well, I got mine from the EVF - Rhonda was selling them for a donation at the door to the conference this year.

Okay, lid stays down here too, but was wondering how you rig something like this up? Instructions would be super so I could jot it down on paper. :o)

My b/f would kill me... hahahah

Hmmmmm, I didnt realize so many people were having problems with the ladder 'catching' things. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worried2.gif" alt="" />

I came up with the idea years ago while watching tv and seeing someone climb out of a swimming pool, on a pool ladder and the idea clicked.

I dont know where my original post is.....
I have never had a problem with my ladders catching paper or waste. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nixweiss.gif" alt="" /> If I could find the original post, it shows how I did mine. I placed it toward the back of the toilet, and only cut it so many inches, AWAY from the water line, but close enough that a Glider reaching out searching around the edges for something to grab hold of could get to it.
When the toilets flushed, the water level in my toilets only come up right under the edge of it so nothing gets 'caught'. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nixweiss.gif" alt="" /> (they are so cheap to make, a roll of hardware cloth from my local hardware store only cost around 8 bucks, and makes many many ladders... so when I feel like it, I can toss them on the trash and replace them easily <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ).
Maybe its the ladder length, or placement, or the toilet itself...with some peoples? I dunno?
Ive never had a problem with them getting icky as far as catching things. I also keep signs laminated and posted on the potty (theres a pic of it in my gallery if anyone would like to use it for their restrooms). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Well, maybe it's the length then - the one I have goes into the water about an inch & catches TP every time! sounds like it's time to try again - on my way to square 1...

Katiedid has a page with a link to one of the GliderCENTRAL posts on the ladder. Unfortunately, it looks like BMXgirl's original post is irretrievable.

Another link I can't currently find is your marvelous "Think of me when you pee" sign for the toilet. I printed out and have yet to laminate several of those signs, which I'll do when I move into my new home this week.

I never have a problem with things getting caught in my toilet ladders, either. *knock wood* <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> Since mine is the one featured in the post that Katty just listed you all can see how it was made in the attached pic. I tried to make them exactly how Hope did the original prototype. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

BTW, if I recall correctly, the original thread that featured Hope's toilet ladder was in Glider Talk. That forum is pretty much just emptied out when we do our GC housekeeping. That's probably why it disappeared and the one in Housing did not.

I got a toilet ladder at the SGGA. We keep it on back of the toilet. If a glider gets loose, that's when we plunge the ladder in. We don't KEEP it in the toilet. We will use if if one of our little folks is unaccounted for.
