I am still trying to learn the lineage part of what one breeding pair could have depending on its family tree..... and I was wondering what does it mean "breeding wise" if you have a WFH and a WF/WTH in your gliders lineage?

I know about the WF part and the WT part..... but not for sure about the Het part. Thx.

There are no wf hets.

With wt, I believe you need two hets to produce a wt.

With a wf/wth, you would get about 50% wf joeys who would be possible wt hets.

With WT's het usually means that a parent or grandparent has a WT. het refers the the ability to produce a color even if that particular glider is not expressing that color.

In response to what stacie said WT is probably the hardest to determine breeding. Because it is possible for gliders with no WT background to have WT joeys. A lot are found in the wild. Its possible for two wt parents to never produce a wt, rare but it happens.

Thanks LB - I thought it had some thing to with genes and producing that which is not seen, but I was not sure.

One more Question:

If Meeko (my WF Male) has WT in his lineage would I list his paper work as WF/WTH? - or is does that title only come to him is he actually produces a WT joey.

Meeko's Grand Parents and Great Grand Parents.

Grand Parents are WTH
Great Grandparents produced WT (Grandma was WT)

What would you consider a WTH?

I do not consider WTH's unless they come directly from WT parents, OR they "prove" by having WT joey's themselves. Having the WT's back in the Grand Parent and GG Parent position is pretty far back where WT's are concerned since the gene is hard to pin down.

Even with two WTH's if the joey's are NOT WT I would be hesitant to label the joey's as WTH, maybe I would say Possible WTH or something exactly because of what you mention Lauren about the two WT's not always producing WT joey's.

Hope that helps you a little bit. I've been researching WT's for a little while now if you needed any further help shoot me an email! smile

Ok - I thought it was some thing like that....... so a joey of WT parents would be considered a WTH?

Is it possible for Meeko to produce a WT joey based on lineage alone or does he need to be paired with a WT female to produce a WT?

Question:

Since Meeko (wf male) has WF WT WFB and Chocolate in his blood line could he possibly produce one of those colors in his joeys?

Yes its possible for him to produce a WT but its more likely for him to produced if he is paired with another WT het or a WT.

If meeko is a WF that is the only way he will produce a WF unless he is paired to a WF. I have no clue about Chocolate and I all ready stated about WT

OK - Thanks....... Since Meeko already has a mate - what are the chances one of his joeys could produce a WT joey if paired with a WT or WTH female?

Gliders are producing WT's with our without WT lineage it seems since we just can't go that far back and really trace lineage's past WC lines. The WT gene can seem pretty random sometimes when there is no WT in the lineage.

Sometimes there is WT's produced when there is only WT in the lineage of one half of the pairing (like on mom's side and not dad's for example). So yes, Meeko could produce a WT if paired with a WT female, or if he was paired with something that was not. Anything seems possible with the WT's. Two standard greys with no WT lineage have produced WT's. So its really a roll of the dice. Odds seem better when there is more WT in the background though, and on both sides.

While it is "possible" for those colors to be expressed, it depends on many factors. Because the joey's only gets half of its gene's from Meeko, its more likely since Meeko is WF that he'll pass that on. WT can pop up but it really depends on what you pair him with.

I meant if Meeko was paired with a WF that he could pass that on... Sorry if that sounded confusing.

Thanks for the reply MMM - so basically any of the colors that Meeko carries - he could produce? like Chocolate & WFB.

WF is dominate on both sides of Meeko's parents with WT popping up in his dads later lineage.

No - I understood...... thumb

I have a breeding Quad and while none of the three mothers (bb) have WF in their lineage - the WF is a dominate gene in Meeko's lineage, and so far three of his four joye's have all been WF.

Here is a little more INFO on the Chocolate:

Meeko has chocolate in his lineage and so do the twin sisters (Meeko's mates) - I would love to see a chocolate glider from them.

Meeko's - Dad, Grandfather, G-Grandfather and GG Grandfather were all chocolate.
Brauma & Shumways - Mom & Dad are chocolate/brownies.
