I really need help. It's not a life or death situation.. but it is serious.

This afternoon I got home from work around 4pm (I'm on day shift this week). I decided to get Goober & do some bonding time. I zipped his pouch that is hanging in his cage, put it under my shirt & away we went. Around 9pm we heard what we thought was something in that attic, checked it out & found nothing. I was heading to put his food in his cage about an hour & a half later (in my room) & was speaking w/ my mom as I turned on the light & jumped backwards. What I thought was a squirel on my bed.. was ACTUALLY GOOBER!!! and I've got to say in that split second he looked HUGE, like the size of a possom or something!! The noise we had heard earlier was him knocking a toy to the floor of his cage! Apparently when I got his pouch out of the cage he wasn't in it (duh). He was in his tunnel sleeping & at some point woke up, knocked the toy down & discovered the cage door wide open. (why close it if it's empty, right)

Goober & I aren't bonded yet, so I can't just scoop him up. He will come to the side of the cage when I'm around & doesn't crab at all when I slowly put food in his cage at night.

HOW do I get him back into a pouch & back into his cage? I've got pouches that he's been in unwashed around where he is (or was) with grapes around them hoping to lure him back in. I've also shut my door & put a blanket under it so he can't crawl out & get lost in the rest of the house. He was last seen hiding in a new dust ruffel for my bed on top of a box in my room. The other thing I worried about is how will this affect our bonding? I completely scared the you know what out of him when I first noticed him, just as he scared the same out of me BIG TIME.

While I do find the humor in carrying around an empty pouch, mistaking his fleece blankets for him for several hours, I am worried that this will stress him out & also hurt what bonding that we have done to this point. I've had him only about 2 1/2 weeks & he's never crabbed or lunged at me when I place food in his cage.

AUGH!!! Any AND all help is needed.

Thanks so much

Monica & Goober the glider on the run

I'm real sorry that's this post is so long. Also if it's not in the right place... please move to where it should be.

Well.. Mr.Goober has apparently decided that this is a great thing . All of the grapes (maybe 4) have been chewed on & he's under my papason chair, chewing. My next question is will the 'dust cattle' not dust bunnies be harmful to him. Since this is unplanned I haven't dusted or mopped my floor in a while.

Will I get any sleep in my room tonight? I'm quickly seeing this will be an all night adventure and I have to get up at 6am for work?!

How completely panicked at this point should I be? I'm wavering between completely and concerned. ALL the while laughing because I'm apparently not bright enough to notice the difference between fleece blankets & my baby.

i would make sure u get him in a secure cage as too many things can happen if left out of cage like drowning in the toilet. or somethig else. dont do anything till u get him in the cage and no it wont affect your bonding

He should head back to his cage toward morning but I wouldn't bet on getting much sleep tonight. I hope everyting turns out ok.

Welcome to the wonderful world of gliders!!! night before last I heard a huge crash and went into the glider room to find two little escapees!! Fortunately, they are very tame and bonded so there was no problem catching them and returning them to the cage. I think Goober will be just fine. He will come out and eventually get tired and either crawl into a pouch or his cage. You can also try to get him out in the open and throw a towel on him and then scoop him up. Or try to move him around toward his cage, like take a broom and use the handle to corral him and guide him towards the cage. Or get at least two people and do the same thing, making sure he heads towards the cage, he's probably having a high old time and doesn't want to go back for a while! But, he will get tired and he will head back to his cage!
Good Luck and let us know what happens!
Chey

It's going on 1 am and I have to get up at 6am. So I am going to sleep on the couch. I won't sleep in my bed, just in case he decides to either join me & get rolled on OR to see what any part of me tastes like. The only positives is there is no bathroom so he can't drown & the door is blocked from the hall. I'm just hoping that he can't get threw any way. The towel didn't work, he buried himself down in one of several comforters on my papason chair. By the time I 'thought' I found him, I noticed him too far to get a towel on him, he's quicker than I really gave him credit for... my mistake not to be repeated.
Hopefully by morning he will have gotten hungry & decide to go 'back home'. I put one of his 'known' pouches back up in the cage.

I guess the moral of the story (so far!!) is to ALWAYS double check that he's in his pouch and not in his tunnel when I take him out. OH.. and to start tent bonding as soon as possible! I feel like such a moron for carrying around an empty pouch tonight. Boy, I'm a bright one huh!!

I will update in the morning on how he did tonight on his grand adventure.

You could turn off the lights and with a flash light wait till you hear him out moving around. Gliders are quite noisy when out and about.

If you retire...make sure nothing in the room ...like nail polish or makeup can be eaten by accident. Put the food inside his cage and leave his door open.

Good luck. Will check this thread tomorrow to see if you were able to catch him.

I HAD to go to bed when I did, as it was it was already after 1am & I had to get up at 6am. What Joy! Needless to say I didn't sleep well, but that's really besides the point I know. Apparently Goober is having a great time. He seems very determined to not go back into his cage. He actually went into a pouch of his this morning but before I could get a good grip on it to keep it closed, he was back out (with a smug look on his face, may I add). However, I do know that he CAN get back up there. Some of his food & his water has been eaten. There's nothing that he can eat. What little makeup I do have is in a comsmetic bag that's zipped up. He should be curling up here shortly to sleep, he's had a big night.
I would swear that the times that I briefly saw him, he had a very smug look on his face & definately turned his nose up with a swish of his tail.

When I get home from work, I will be catching his fur butt!!

I can just picture the smirk on his little sweet face...life IS grand, isn't it? Goober thinks so... Wishing you find him all snuggled in his bed, and can safely return him home!

OK. My kids did this all the time and still do it for babysitters. I used to throw treats into their cage to trap them and shut the door real quick.

the babysitter would corral him with 2 people holding napkins.

sounds like a little stinker! this may not be what other people would do, but i would just GRAB HIM. by any means possible. i bet he would be ok for 2 seconds of un-gentle grabbing?

good luck. get that baby!!

Well.. GOOD NEWS!!! I finally captured Goober . I went in my room to basically hunt him down & by chance happened to see his little pink nose peeking out. The little was between three pillows on my bed. He was quite content. (NOT at all happy with me right now, though he did take a grape from me after he was prisoned.) I placed his pouch in front of him, slowly moved a pillow away (still had another over him) & used a backscratcher to 'motivate' him into the pouch. It's the FIRST time he's ever crabbed at me!!! LOL But I'm thinking that it's not gonna be the last. Time to get a tent out of the attic while the rest of the fam is gone this weekend thru next week!!

BUT I learned a BIG lesson.... NEVER ASSUME that your glider is in his pouch, always check the pouch, a tunnel or anything else they could be napping in & I would suggest closing the cage door, even if they are with you in a pouch!!!! I'm just glad he's back & I can sleep in my bed tonight!!

Thanks for all the advice...

Monica & the not so thankful Goober.

Hey there..well about getting Goober...i would do the same thing that Dana did....grab them...its not going to kill them...i grab mine when they run for it...lol...they might bite but if you get them with a lil towel then you wont have a problem....hehe..dont be too gentle with them...if not they will keep playing cause they think you just playing with them.

He can be as upset with me as he wants... AS long as it's from his cage.

Now... I'm just feeling like a complete dork for wearing an empty pouch, except for his fleece blankets, for 6 hours & not realzing that Goober wasn't there, I SWEAR I felt him move around !

Live , learn & laugh !!!

I guess that it be a lesson well learned & not quickly forgotten.
