Alright, so it's day 3 of having these kawaii babies! I've cleaned their bowls out daily, and I cleaned their little hut today, but their cage is still pretty stinky, so I'm going to clean it! My question is... where is the safest place to put them while I'm cleaning? I do not yet having a bonding pouch (though we have ordered it.) They are currently in my spare/quarinteen cage. I clean the cage in the bathroom (it's been rat and ferret proofed) is it ok to just kind put them on the floor and let them go where they please while I'm cleaning it? And.... what's the best way to get them back into the cage once they are loose? We have no yet "handled them" we are only at the point where they take food from my hand, will sniff my hand and allow me to pet them during the day (in their sleepy time). But I haven't even begun to try and convince them that my hand is a fun place to sit in ^_^

AngelZoo, if you have a spare cage, they can go in that. Or you can run to Wal-Mart, for about $7 get a small critter keeper and put them in there while you clean the cage. Due to the water being on, and you will probably be using soap of some sort, I don't think letting them run free is a good idea. If you use the critter keeper thing, it fits in the doors of most cages, or you can open the little door on the top of it, and hold it to the cage door and kind of dump them (they'll probably jump) into their cage. Good luck!

Once in a pinch, I put mine in an enclosed shower in their pouch during the daytime sleeptime, and they never budged...while I cleaned the cage. You could maybe tie the pouch shut with a pc. of ribbon or something too, just long enough to clean. Good Luck!

Since these sweeties are not totally bonded to you yet, I would NOT recommend that you let them run loose while you're cleaning! Any given domicile has too many small places for these little stinkers to get into & not come out. Because this is a "pinch", any type of pouch with a draw-string top can work for a temporary nest while you have to remove them. A Crown Royal pouch would be ideal...it's small enough that you could put it back into their cleaned cage with the drawstring loosened & they could exit whenever they feel. Even a pillowcase tied shut at the top will get the job done....if a long enough string is used, you could hang the pillowcase on the doorknob while you clean. *be sure to use just dish soap & hot water!!!

I would also like to recommend buying a small jr. dome tent. They run about $16.99 at Wal-Mart and I'm sure other places have it.
As far as the stinky smell goes, I use vinegar/water and it helps a lot with the smell. :o) Just make sure you dillute it before you use it. I use a cheap spray bottle.

I bought a small critter keeper type thing and I use it when I am cleaning cages or for vet trips. (actually I have 10 of them, one for each cage) It works great as the gliders are usually asleep anyway.
