I just wanted to post Kip's story here even though I only knew him for a few minutes.

I've been talking to one of my friends about sugar gliders, I have been researching them over a year and told her I was going to get one, and explained how they look and showed her pictures of them. She agreed their adorable, but I didn't know that she suspected she could care for them, especially after I told her that even the smallest change can upset them.
Last night she called me and was sobbing, and told me to go over right then, I had my mom drive me over while I was still talking to this girl on a phone and she told me she had bought herself something, and was going to show me tomorrow but she needed help today. When I got there and ran in her room, I saw a little pouch hanging in her FERRETS CAGE! I felt like my heart stopped. I said "whats in there" and she told me she bought a sugar glider, but the sugar glider and ferret were fighting and now 'Kip' wouldn't come out of his pouch. I reached in and took the poor baby out, she told me she got him from a breeder, she wouldn't tell me who, and the breeder told her the baby was 5 weeks oop. The poor thing died in my hand only minutes after I got there, he had been hurt beyond discription from the ferret. This poor little boy could have lived if he had had a better breeder, and a better owner and I think he deserves his story heard. Sadly there were no pictures of him to post, to show everyone how cute he was. (This is a friend I rarely have talked to for months, because she has no common sence and I got tired of her stupidity. I think this proves how stupid she really is.)

OMG! UGH! What brought her to put the glider in the FERRET's Cage? err...nevermind, what an idiot..sorry, if that's inappropriate to say, but err...ignorant..I want to say a lot of things, but this is one of the reasons why I go out and educate people.

it's amazing, really, how absolutely idiotic people can be sometimes. Personally, I cannot stand people like this... This is just completely shocking beyond words... WHO CAN BE SO DUMB??

[:"blue"] While this is a good example of why gliders and ferrets should never even be in the same room much less the same cage, let's ease up on the owner of this poor little glider.

I am so sorry for her loss but have a feeling there is more to this story than we know. We have no idea what the breeder may have told her but we definitely know this little one was sold way too early if only 5 weeks oop. It's possible the glider would not have survived anyway.

Please tell your friend that we are very sorry this happened, and if she decides to get another glider, we would be glad to help her out before she make the purchase. [/]

That poor girl is obviously a teenager, and as teenagers we all did things that were not quite....smart. I agree with KarenE, this poor glider may not have lived anyway due to its age. Ferrets seem like they are quite sweet and loving, and to someone who doesn't know better, it probably seemed like a good idea at the time. I am so sorry that this horrible thing happened to Kip. He has plenty of friends waiting for him at the bridge, and if your friend learned her lesson from this, he will be waiting for her.

What an unfortunate circumstance. Too bad that your friend didn't do her research before getting a suggie. At least now he's not suffering (if he had lived after that attack he probably wouldn't have been 100%) And how awful was that breeder! I make sure that I don't sell mine until EXACTLY 8 wks. Pure ignorance on the ferret owner's part and ignorance or greediness on the breeder's part. What a shame.

[:"blue"] This forum is for people to post when they have lost a little one. A place for them to get support in their time of grief.

This is not a place for words such as ignorant, stupid, idiot or greedy.

This post was made by her friend, and I for one apologize, should she come to read this for herself, for any inappropriate comments.

I do not want to close this thread but will and have it reposted if the replies continue as they have been. [/]

I apologize if my words were curt, I just feel very badly for this baby that passed away so quickly. I feel bad now, I didn't realize that I was in the wrong. I'll try not to let my frustration turn to angry words. Incidents like these frustrate me. Sorry Karen

I agree, Karen. Thanks.

Also Mizumeki, I am sorry for your loss and that both you and your friend had to go through that.

Poor baby.

I can't blame this incident based on age discrestion alone. I have people of all ages from all walks of life ask me if it's appropriate for such and such animals to play and live together.
I have people who let their small animals play with other larger pets for months, and they protest that it IS possible, until a few days down the line and don't you know it, that smaller animal dies from an attack they thought would never happen.

Aw, c'mon guys. The girls a kid, and who knows the breeder or her parents may have even told her IT WAS OK to do that. Gee my heart is so broken for that baby.
Mizumeki, be considerate of ur friend. We take it for granted people know about animals, but some people have no clue. I even had a girl ask me if my Oscar had rabies! Its a shame this happened, but instead of being so hard on a child, maybe we could focus on giving her some info.
Does she take good care of hte ferret btw?
