I have an apple tree in my back yard however I know that the apples themselves have lots of little bugs. I want to put a branch or two in Peo's cage but I'm afraid of bringing in the little bugs. A while ago I read somewhere that you can bake your branches to kill off any pests and bacteria. Anyone done this or know what I am talking about?

Yep, you can put them in the oven at 300 degrees for about 20-30 minutes (long enough for them to get super hot without burning). It will kill off any bugs living inside the branches.

Okay, I give up - what's the purpose of apple branches? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> I have seen different postings saying something about apple branches and have wondered about it.

What do you mean, Becky? I'm confused. LOL Apple branches are one of the branches that are non- toxic to gliders and are safe to put in the cage. Is that what you meant?

Tina & Ben, Haven't been able to check postings much the past two days and just saw that I had confused you - join the party, I'm confused. I understand that toxic things should not be put in a gliders cage, but why would you put an apple branch in their cage? What purpose does it serve (i.e. for decoration, for them to crawl around on or just to chew on)? Did I confuse things more with the above? Really would like to know about it and if there are other tree branches that would serve the same purpose - for example a wild cherry tree.

yeah I have a big cage and my glider loves to chew on things. My nursery confirmed i had a golden delicious apple tree which is non toxic for gliders, so it gives something for Peo to climb around on and chew the bark off. It's also nicer than storebought branches because obviously these are free and when they get stinky or old I can replace them whenever. Check the toxic/non toxic plant list to see if you have any trees that can be used as well!
