Hmm, I don't know what to do b/c I made up some Baby BML (no wheat germ or egg shells). I have tried twice now and they will not take it... They sorta give me the "icky" face. LOL Any alternative? Since they do not like it, I've been using a mixture from www.suzsugargliders.com that calls for 1 tbsp. Gliderade, 1 tbsp. rice with apple baby cereal, and 1 tbsp. booster milk, but I'm in the process of getting that so have been using puppy replacement milk and have added a bit of calcium supps to that as well... Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Feeding time is every hour so I'll keep checking for insight. Thanks!

I think you just need to be consistant with them. Also, make sure they are warm when you go to feed them or they won't eat at all.
Oh, and you might want to pick up a digital scale (postal scale, got mine at walmart just under $20) that reads in grams as well as oz. Just make sure they don't measure in increments of 2 as some of them do. This way you can monitor their weight to make sure they are growing.

I usually have them in my sports bra or in the incubator and they are pretty warm when I feed them as well as the food I put in the microwave until it's warm to touch.
As far as the scale, I totally forgot to weigh them today while I made a pit stop at work. We have a few scales at work I will use. Thanks for the reminder! hehehe

Teresa is right; the joeys need to be warm when feeding, otherwise they won't eat. You might have to add a bit of water to the baby BML, since the joeys are only 6 days OOP. Make sure the baby BML is warm to your touch before feeding the joeys. Do you have a French catheter? If not, you might want to order some from Sheila, at her site, www.toandfrogliders.com and Sheila does send the orders out pronto. Jen

I have a few french cathiters #5 I got from a nearby vet this morning. I have been doing all that even adding some extra cc's of water and still... nothing. I don't want to force them b/c I don't want them to get aspirated. I'll keep trying, feeding time is in 15 minutes. lol

Ok, try it another way. At the SGGA, Sheila showed us how to get the joeys to eat. She had a joey by the ball of her hand and she squeezed the wombaroo milk onto the cup of her hand and the joey licked it up. Let me know how this works.

My husband (Oldcolt58) and I just finished handfeeding our two pulled joeys. We used baby BML and it was the only thing we used to feed them. We reasoned that if they were hungry, then they would eat it, and they ate.
Keep trying, Tina.

The BML will work... Take 1/2 cube of BML add 2 teaspoons of Premixed Puppy Milk to it. Heat in Microwave for 12 seconds and then stir. Make sure it is not hot. Babies who will not eat the baby BML usually will eat it if diluted with Premixed Puppy Milk. Do Not add extra calcium. Monitor the stools of the baby. Some babies are Lactose Intolerant and thus will develope Yellow Runny Stool. This will not happen if you feed them the BML mix with the puppy milk. Handfeeding the babies will be difficult for the first 24 hours. Usually babies as small as these need to be given supportive care with rehydration of Normal Saline with 5% Dextrose added. Suggest you seek help from a vet to show you how to sub q to combat dehyration until they are eating well. These babies are extremely small. From your photos you posted... they look like they weigh less than eight grams each. Good Luck with the tiny ones.

Thanks Judie, that was super helpful. I will mix in the puppy replacer with it. Now, do I give them a few extra cc's of water after they eat?

If their stools have been loose skip the water this feeding and wait till they tighten up which may take one or two feedings of the BML mix.
Also, if they have not been eating much food.. then feed them the mix... and next feeding give them water... but only after they have eaten the mix unless they are dehydrated. If dehydrated... then give water first... and in a half hour... feed them.
As to cleaning the babies... use a clean wet wash cloth.
How much are the babies able to eat at one feeding?

I have two females who refused to feed their joeys once they were o.o.p. (they are no longer allowed to breed). At any rate, sometimes I mix the booster milk & gliderade with Pedialyte instead of water when reconstituting it. It makes the flavor a bit more palatable for them & helps to keep the joeys hydrated. Also, since the joeys are still so young, you might want to cut back to only 1 tsp. of the baby cereal. If there is anything I can do to help, please feel free to call me between 9 a.m. & 9 p.m. ET at 866-399-4476.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> I add a few drops of vanilla ensure or vanilla soy milk to the baby BML to thin it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> Also, make sure its warm, some joeys are picky about getting it the right temp. Please keep us updated on how they are doing. I think its wonderful that your professors are being so supportive about you caring for these little babies. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yelclap.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" /> Angie
