Bonding - easier if just 1 person works with them? #58570

I'm planning on getting a couple of suggies in the next few months. My husband and I both want to work with them and really make them a family pet.

My question is this...would it be more difficult if we both worked with them and tried to bond with them? Can two people bond at once? When we send the breeder a piece of fleece with our scent on it, whose scent would we send?

Thanks in advance!
Kristy

I am going to move this to bonding & Relations so you will get a better response.

There should be no problem bonding with both at the same time. I would suggest getting a Jr. tent from walmart were both you and your husband can get into with the gliders. You will put toys and stuff for them to play with, and they will interact with both of you. I would also suggest getting a Sissy Pouch that you can share with your husband and each can take turns wearing it to help with the bonding process.

Send fleece with both of your scents on it, one piece for each of you. We will put both male and female joeys together once they are weaned and put both fleece pieces in their pouch so they could smell your scents. I am so glad you and your husband are getting our babies, as you are going to be great glider parents, from our conversations. I am looking forward to meeting with you and your husband in the next couple of months.

Thanks guys...I'll send fleece from each of us. And gliderdad, I've already got the bonding pouches, though I don't think I got a sissy pouch. I DID get a pouch from someone here on GC. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

And Jen, I'm so glad we're getting your babies as well, and our conversations have been very helpful! I'm sure I'll continue to keep in touch and keep you updated on the babies' progress.

We are/were going through the same type of thing. I'd keep a peice of fabric under my shirt for a portion of the day or at night, and then I'd say to my fiance "Ok it's time for you to be the pregnant one". (Because the fabric was large and bulky, made the person who was "wearing" it look like they were preggo.) Then the next day we would stick it in their cage, and repeat the process with another peice of fabric.

You both can bond with them at the same time, but I think it would be easiest for the suggies to do a physical meet and greet with you one at a time. Aka when you first get them home and in the cage, don't both of you jam your hands and arms in through the door trying to say hello, hee hee.

Now adays since my gliders have settled into our new home. We take turns. We both go near the cage and say hello, he sits down or stands off a couple feet, and I open the cage, and then vice versa.

Cheers!

My daughter and I have been bonding with Roxy at the same time. So far so good. It hasn't been a problem for us. Good luck!

My b/f, Ben and I both work with and bond with our suggies. It works well and they have learned to recognize both of our voices. :o) It makes me so happy.

As far as the fleece, cut up 2 small blankies out of fleece and have your husband sleep with one and you sleep with the other. Send both to the breeder and have him/her put both in the glider's pouch. :o)

Tent time is especially fun. They can use you as a jungle gym. I got one that fits both Ben and me and it's so fun just watching TV in there while the babies play all over us. :o)

Marsi has been with us for only a couple weeks. We have a room that we play with her in. At first it's only me in there with her to get her settled. Then all 3 of my girls come in when they wake up for school. Marsi was a little frighnened at first but she has already gotten used to all of us. She will jump to me if something scares her but then will "cruz" all of us to play. The blankie thing is a great one. Before we got Marsi all of us slept with blankies. When we went for a joey visit we gave her all our blankies.
Geez....there are 4 of us so that's a lot of smells. I think it helped her when she came home to us.I have yet to hear Marsi crab. I hope you have as good of luck as we did and are having.. Let us know.
