We went and picked up Ziggys old cage from his old house, and it's not in the best condition. It's kind of rusty, and the paint from the bars is ugly. There was an old, plaster hamster wheel we took out, because I know those aren't glider safe, and we cleaned all the pine bedding from the bottom that she used to use. I was wondering if there's a safe paint, or coating we could use for the bars of his cage. The rusting is making me a little nervous. If there is a safe paint, how long would it take to dry? The only other cage I have is a really small birdcage, and he didn't like it in there at all. I wouldn't want to put him in there for a second night.

For a peace of mind for yourself and for your glider's health, a new cage would be a good idea. Rust is hard to cover up with any kind of paint, as the rust just will not go away. Rust is eating away at the wire of the cage, so there is no way to save the cage. Toss out the old cage and get a new one. Ziggy will thank you and you can breathe easier.

We're so tight on money now, especially after buying him. I'm going to start making pouches and other glider things and make a "New cage for Ziggy" fund, or something. I still need to get him a wheel, because he runs around in circles a lot in the cage at night, and I don't have a tent to let him run around in. So hopefully this pouch/toy idea will work. Thanks for your advice. ^_^
