[:"green"]This weekend at the Michigan Glider Get Together, we made these really cool glider tunnels to hang in the cages. If you check with SugeeBaby I'm sure she'll be happy to give you directions on how to make one. Here's a picture of my husband making one last Sunday at the MGGT...

You can also cut the fleece into thin strips and make fun toys out of it! :o)

You can cut the fleece into thin, long strips and tie one end to a keyring with a snaphook and braid the strips together. You will have a long rope for the gliders to climb on or play Tarzan, lol!

You could cut the fleece into strips and weave them in the corner of the cage, to make kind of a crooked staircase. lol O.k. its kinda hard to explain, but if you weave it from this side of the corner to that, and move all the way up to the top of the cage it makes a cool ladder-type-thingie. I've really been wanting to try this one out! Good luck. lol If you need help (lol like I do )you can PM me and I'll try to explain/draw it.
why can't I explain it right?!

wait!! I want to know about the bridges, ladders, tunnels and all. I just got my suggie so haven't had the time to make all these fun things you guys have. We need a suggie toy section on this site for us newbiews would be fun. If you can pass along instrustions to me I would be very grateful.
Thanks!!

also- if you have the larger size chains that they sell at lowes, etc in plastic: tying strips of fleece through the chain makes great toys too...

the tunnels we made at the MGGT were based on a piece of plastic hardware cloth (still machine washable) and strips of fleece as well.. and Sue showed us how to make crocheted chains to make ropes- I made a few longer ones already since the cage is on the large side....

[:"green"]Okay, so here's a really basic explanation of how to make the Fleece Rope.
1) Cut three long strips of fleece (cut from serged edge to serged edge) about 1" wide.
2) Single crochet the first length until there's about 3" left, leaving the crochet hook in the last loop.
3) Grasp the next length of fleece and crochet it onto the first length, leaving a 3" tail.
4) Repeat Step 3 for the third length, attaching it to the second length.
5) Slip one Lanyard Hook onto each end of the rope and double-knot it into place.
6) Slip one Lanyard Hook onto one of the tails at each juncture of the rope & double-knot it into place using the two tails.
7) Stretch taut and attach it to the cage using the Lanyard Hooks.
Here's a picture of one...

[:"green"]That's Coobah & Carina's joey, Kulan. Isn't he a handsome little boy?!? I hated to sell him, but I really couldn't keep him... *sigh*

Okay, I know, I need to do up instructions that are illustrated. I'll work on that later today!

Gotta bring the kids to school now...

You can also double it and sew bias tape around it to make mats to cover the floor of the cages. We use some type of mat on the floor of all of our cages. Change them out daily.

I use just the fleece (no edging needed) under our cages to catch dropping and change 2-3 times per week here too...

I also have been looking into other alternatives for fleece that can be made without the sewing machine or getting up. if Bill cuts me squares I can make hammocks and pouches- made 2 pouches this AM... but cutting from large pieces of fleece while laying down isn't easy. I'm going to have him cut me strips tonight so I can make chains, and also cut pieces from the mesh he promised to buy so I can make more tunnels and roly toys and hammocks witht he strips until I run out tomorrow. Thank goodness for VOD today- its keeping me occupied with movies while I craft... I hated the idea of having that much tv in the house, but at the moment its a lifesaver. I'm going to try to figure out a way I can do other things soon too...

[:"green"]I forgot to mention that the size crochet hook to use for the fleece ropes is P - 11 1/2 mm.

LOL, I have about 6 glue guns because I will go looking for one and can't find it and just go buy another! And I have glue sticks for them EVERYWHERE!

Don't forget, winter is coming and fleece makes GREAT scarves for us humans!

with the house for sale and a full storage locker of stuff thats been there since a year ago... I keep raiding it and being unable to find things, the sad part is I've bought more of things I know I own! ah well... I am working on some other items too, trying to be creative, but I need bill's helpf or things I can't do flat on my back.. I did figure out how to cut fleece strips though! fold the fabric in 4ths and its manageable and I can still cut it with a scissors.. though I miss my cutting mat and rotary cutter on those!

Thanks for all the great idea though!

I haven't looked at Lowe's but I couldn't find it at Home Depot. I got a bunch of the plastic chain from www.windycityparrot.com and it's perfect for making ropes and things. They also have a bunch of other toy making supplies like bells and such.

I believe that chain is in the same section as the ropes and cables and things of that nature. If you can't find it- ask someone that works there

its the same place as the metal chain at lowes here... I don't know the name of the section, but their staff will help if you ask.. and they are supposed to cut it for you anyway!

The serged edge is edge that the store does not cut. It usually is edged in white or is funny looking that there's glue on it.

[:"green"]Yes! That's the serged edge. Sorry, didn't mean to be too complicated - I forget that most people aren't sewers. Sorry!
My camera batteries died this morning, so they're recharging now . I'll try to post pix tomorrow...
