Hi all I had to go to the vet again with Ariel. This is so hard I am at my wits end here. First I noticed last night she would not eat and I almost had to gag her to give her her meds. I forced what little she would eat and drink down her throat but I kept worrying that I was going to make her asperate it. Couldn't find any emergency vet last night so sat up with her all night and tried everything I could. I honestly thought I was going to lose her but she toughed it out. So first thing this morning I called the local vet that I usually see and he was not in today so there was no one that could see her. I called the vet Dr. Folland at Perish Creek vet a two hour drive away only to find out he is also gone for all week. Finally found a local vet that would see her. I took her in and he said she did not look good at all (NO DUH) I got her medical records faxed up from parish creek so he would know what he was dealing with. He did an exam she is extremely dehydrated. Looking in her mouth he thinks she has an absess. He has her on baytril and sub Qd her. The absess is the side that I usually give her medicine and treatment on so I am probably responible for the absess. I dont know how I am going to give her the meds now as this will make it so much harder to give them. Everything is stressing her out even if I touch her she starts to shake. I dont know what to do I am at my wits end here. I am in tears because the vet says we should see improvement in 24 hours with the baytril if we dont maybe it was time to releave her of the misery. I have fought so hard with her I don't know if I can do that. Either way I feel lower than a snakes belly right now I could use a little encouragement here. Also has anyone else given sub Q's before he sent me home with fluid and told me to give her some again if she doesn't look any better I thought I would post before going through the long process of meds and possily sub q again. Please pray for her I honest don't know if this is the last time I will post before having to post on rainbow memorials. She is so bad I don't know what to do.

hug2 I'm sorry you're going through this. You are in my thoughts. If you do have to let her go, at least she will go knowing she was loved until the end.

Silverwolf I'm going to give you a couple of HUGE hug2 hug2 and pray for you that Ariel pulls through.

If she has ANY chance of making it, you need to help her fight the infection by getting the meds in her & doing the sub-Q'ing if she isn't drinking. As hard as I know it is on you, I couldn't and wouldn't give up on helping her until she herself gives up.

I so wish I could say or do more to help you....

Huge HUGS to you.

I know how hard this is. I am so sorry you are going through this.

Yes, I have given sub-q fluids more than I ever wish I had.

You cannot blame yourself. You CAN'T. She had to have the meds. She still has to.

You are welcome to call me as well. I hope you have already talked to Linda.

Praying for you and Ariel.

Have you ever dealt with Dr. Harris at Wasatch Exotic in SLC? She is fabulous and puts pets before money - she would probably give you any advice over the phone if you're unsure about anything and can't get a hold of your vet.

Hoping for a positive update! :hugs:

Do you have any mealworms? Can you get some? You can inject the meds into the mealies and just let her eat it. There are other ways, but sneaking it in through favorite treats is good. With Baytril, maybe a smidgen of ice cream with it...whatever works.

I am out of mealworms and cant seem to find anyone that has them. I even reverted to the local petsmart and they told me that they may get some next week but no guarantee. Right now she does not fight getting the meds but I think that is because she is still so weak. I think because I am still sub qing her that the meds are no big deal after having the injection lol. Now for the update she is doing better still very weak and sick but her hydration is not as bad as it was yesterday and she is not on death's doorstep anymore. In fact the last time I did the sub q I felt really bad because she looked at me and started kissing me like I know mom your doing this for me. It made me feel so bad that I had to stick her again with a needle. Thanks to both linda and Val B you both have been lifesavers through this. Linda you have helped so much since I started dealing with the liver failure you are such an angel and care so much on how she is doing. Val you really helped me understand some insites into dealing with a chronically ill glider. I appreciate all the help on this board I know that some see it as harsh but people here really do care and many would do anything to help you out if it was at all possible. I will keep you all updated on how she is and hopefully we can pull her out once again.

Ariel is doing alot better tonight I am still sub qing her as her hydration is still not up to par yet. She is actually eating tonight and not shaking as much as she was. she even had a little fight in her tonight over the meds so she is responding. Her fur looks smooth again and not clumpy like it was so she has a long way to go but she is improving. She still is not moving around much yet and not eating alot but the difference is major I wish I could have taken pics but I was to stressed to think about pics. I think if she stays on this road she will get through this one again. She made me feel good tonight as after her shot of ringers I was telling her how sorry I was that I had to do this and that I loved her she looked at me with her trusting eyes and started licking my hand like she usually does it was so sweet I almost cried.

If it is an abcess you may want to get the vet to prescribe some Clindamyacin. I know my situation with Ivy is a bit different as she had a sinus infection, but abcess was another concern on the list, we were able to rule it out, but Clindamyacin was highly reccomended to me and when my girl was non-responsive to the Baytrill I urged my vet to give me the Clindamyacin, it saved her life.

Does she have an area that is swelled at all? If so have the vet insert a needle and do a C7S on any liquid that is pulled from it. If it is a tooth that is abcessed the tooth may need to be removed by your vet, so have him look her mouth over good.

I am going to go find my thread and post it here for you. There was some wonderful information in there and I think it was xfilefan and suz giving a great deal of the advice that saved my baby. Maybe it will be able to help you too, I can only hope. I have been there and it is scary. Hang and just keep hope in your little one...and I hope she has a fully recovery for you.

As we spoke about yesterday.... Since you are not SURE she has an abscess, focus on the liver issues and getting her a bit stronger for now.

If she continues to improve in such a manner, then you can get a good look in her mouth. Right now, she has much larger issues, though.

I am just so happy she is doing so well. I pray it continues.

Well guys she is still hanging in there tho her improvement in not as quick as I would like. She is eating better and she seems to be such a fighter. I called the vet about her breathing still being hard and he thinks she has a little of the infection in her lungs as well. He wants to keep her on meds and says it may take a week before I see improvement there. Nice of him to let me know this when I was there and not two days later GRRRR vets sometimes. I have not done this much on GC but thought you all might like a picture so you had a better idea of what I am dealing with. I also have a few of her daughter that can show the comparison between her healthy daughter and her at this point. Well I was going to add pics but I cant seem to get them to work. The image part that I have used before does not seem to be working right.

ok here goes this was Ariel about a year ago.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p43/silverwolf_photo/arielbabysmom.jpg

These three are of Ariel now. You will need to remember that two days ago she looked much worse than this.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p43/silverwolf_photo/P7180219.jpg

Now just for comparison I have pics of her BB daughter Luna resembles what Ariel looked like before all this started she is approximately the same weight and all as her mother Ariel was.

Just noticed that Luna looks like she has a scratch or something odd by her eye in most of these she doesn't it was just my horrible picture taking skills lol. Oh by the way thanks for the help caerbear it worked yay.

Well here is todays update. She is improving I think. She didn't need the sub q this morning but by this afternoon she did I was so hoping that she would not need it. She has started getting a little diahrea but I think that is from the meds. She is still really sick my 23 year old daughter saw her today and was shocked at how bad she looked. She stated she has never seen her look so pale and sick. She is starting to eat a little on her own but it is still picking at the food not really eating it. i weighed her today and she is 84 grams but her tummy looks a little bloated to me I dont know if it is because of the medicines she is getting or if her liver is just not working very well at all and she can't eleminate all this like she should. She will go back in on monday and we will see what the vet thinks. She is spending alot of time away from her mate and it is driving him nuts. I am also worried because she is not cleaning herself like she should and I don't want to get her wet to clean her as I worry about her getting chilled right now. I could use any advice from you lovely people out here I want to do what is best for her.

You can take a warm damp wash cloth and have her wiggle thru it. As soon as she is finished wrap her up in a warmed up blankie or pouch. You also can try and use Cottenelle Baby Wipes.
For the diarrhea, you can offer her some canned pumpkin (the kind without the spices) Also, if she likes yogurt if you can find the Activia (any flavor) give her some of that.
Sending you and Ariel lots of hugs and prayers!

Thanks linda I will try that I am just hoping that the bloated looking tummy is more just because we are doing so much with meds and fluids and not because things are not working right.

Guys I am here to post my final update on Ariel. She seemed to be doing so well. She came out a little early tonight and went to the food dishes and ate. I was so encouraged to see her eating on her own. I gave her her meds and sub q'd her even tho her hydration wasnt very bad at all. I fed her the yogurt for the dyhrea from the meds she was on. Then I figured she had been such a good girl I would hold her for a few. She reached out and grabbed my fingers and started licking them something she hasn't done since she became so ill. Then all of a sudden she reached out her little hands like she wanted something and she was gone. I am in uncontrolable tears here I loved her so much. I was so very hopeful. My kids are a blubbering mess also. My daugher held her for half and hour and cried and is cryig herself to sleep in her room (She was technically her glider) My son is holding her right now saying goodbye. She fought so hard. I guess I now have to do the hardest thing I have had to do and request that you move this thread to rainbow memorials. I will post a proper memorial to her once I get my emotions under control. Thank you to all who have helped me along the way.
