I have read of some people using newspaper as a source of bedding on the bottom of their cages... I was wondering if that is okay to do. If so, I was going to do that as well since puppy pads are $$$ when you have more than 1 glider. LOL
Also, I am talking about cages that do and do not have drop trays on them so they would be able to access the newspaper. I would clean and change it out daily.
Thanks!

Hmm, I'd be a little nervous about the ink hurting them if/when they decide to give it a taste....

That's what I thought too!!! LOL Which is why I'm asking b/c I've seen a lot of people on here use them. Maybe I'll just stick to the puppy pads.

Black and white newspaper is now printed with vegitable oil based inks and shouldn't hurt your gliders but... I would be concerned with them trying to eat the paper and getting a intestinal blockage from it. For the cages without a "floor" above the tray, I would suggest some fleece cut to fit the bottom. Have several of these then you can change them out, wash them and reuse them.

Oh yeah.... fleece...My best friend. DUH! Why didn't I think of that???
How often should I change it out and wash it? I would shake it off daily.

I change ours (not in contact with the gliders except during playtime) every 2-3 days.. otherwise it starts to smell from stuff that falls on it (more food then anything I think)

sounds good! I will go ahead and buy more fleece (I have a ton I want to make pouches out of ). And with Wal-Mart having some for $2.79/yard, I can't go wrong! So you think every 2-3 days completely change it out? That's fine... I'll shake it out everyday anyway. It will be cheaper than puppy pads anyway and it would be nice to have something that looks cute on the bottom of the large cage. Thanks!

I have been using newspaper in the bottom of my cage, but there are bars above it. The gliders don't actually touch the paper. There is about an inch of space between the bars on the floor and the newspaper under it. They have never shown an interest in the newspaper at all. I like the design of my cage (a large birdhouse) because there is a tray below the cage floor that can be removed for easy cleaning! I just place fresh newspaper in this tray daily.

Unfortunately, I do not have a grating over my drop tray so as of now, I use puppy pads which are working well, but getting somewhat expensive. I am still trying to figure out what I can use b/c the fleece isn't working either. I do not want to go back to Aspen or CareFresh b/c it takes an entire big bag of CareFresh and about 5 lbs. of Aspen to cover the cage bottom and it gets super messy.
If anyone else has ideas, please let me know... I have thought about not using anything, but would rather not.
