I needed a feeding station for my reptarium because with so many dishes- there wasn't any room on the floor for any other toys & the wheel was bonking into the dishes!

So... I came up with this!! (Well... Chad helped too!)

If this has already been made by anyone- you must be a genius too!

There is a black zip tie looped through the rep material & the clip is hooked onto the loop!

Very good idea. I do have a suggestion for you though. I don't think that hanging the feeding station directly from the mesh is a good idea. Over time, the weight of the stations plus the added stress of the gliders hopping on and off might damage the mesh resulting in a hole. Instead, why not find keyrings large enough to go over the pipes and attach it that way...

Or drill little holes and put those little screw thingies with eyelets into the pipes. And hook onto those.

What a great idea!!!! Hmm, I might borrow your idea if you don't mind... LOL I might be getting the 2 hundered something gallon rep. The one that is 6 ft tall... I like that idea!

By the way, do you think that would fit 5 gliders okay? Right now I have a 5 ft one that will fit 3 just fine. :o)

Also, how did you get the zip ties in the mesh and is it pulling at the material with all that weight? Kind of like Leyna said. If you find that it is okay, let me know and if it rips please let me know as well so I can figure out a way to get key rings attached. Thanks!

Hmmm... key rings are a good idea!

I'll have to get some when I make my standard weekly trip to JoAnn's tomorrow!

I'm not too worried about the mesh right now- not everyone will be on it at once & their is some distribution of the weight- although I am going to switch to the larger rings around the tubes!

Also- any idea on how I can make a little something for them to perch/sit on besides the edge of the bowl? Only thing I can come up with is some more fleece pieces coming out of the sides, straight out to the rep (maybe 2 per side, closer to the edges)- then maybe weave some fleece in between it really tight, kind of like those pot holders everyone made when they were kids?

I don't mind if you use my idea!! If you come up with something better you have to share it though!

I just did some quick thinking- and those rings are a great idea but I'd still need to find a way to prevent them from sliding around. The fact that the 4 fleece ropes are kinda tight helps it from tipping.

So- I think I'm going to put a ring around the (horizontal) pipe- like planned, then put a zip tie around the vertical pipe & through the ring. Make sense?

As of now the zip ties are just through the mesh Tina- but I always make sure to put each end about a 1/2" to 3/4" apart. I go into the rep from the top, then back out- from the inside- and zip the tie, viola! That space I just mentioned would be between the hole you shove the tie through to go in, and then the other one to come back out. Hope that makes sense.

I do have a pouch hanging from just a random spot, more towards the middle (rather than the corner/pipe) and I noticed it is starting to stretch that hole a little bit. I also didn't do the ends as far apart as I was saying- but when they're all in there, that's a lot of weight! The hole isn't big at all and will be fine but I should probably get some extra rings and rehang that pouch so it doesn't get worse.

Yours truly,
BlabberTyper!

Hum... if you go to a petshop and look in the aquarium section, you should be able to find some stiff plastic tubing. By drilling a couple holes in your feeding station, you can thread the tubing across and make some perchs.

As far as the key rings sliding, I have another idea now, lol. Just put the cable tie around the tube. Then you can tighten it up and it will stay put. I don't know why I didn't even consider that before, lol.

Leyna- by "drilling a couple holes in your feeding station, you can thread the tubing across and make some perchs." do you mean make a T or a cross- over the bowl?

As for the zip ties around the tube- I tried that when hanging pouches.

The zip ties I have are too short so when I zip them (just enough to keep it 'tied') the loop is too tight around the tube to be able to clip onto easily.

I think the key ring idea is the best- unless I can find some zip's that are the same width as my tiny ones but really long.

Hum... look at your local walmart, kmart, what ever's electical department. There are these zelcro things that are kind of like cable ties that might work...
As for the tube, I would make alittle cross shape across the bowl with one being slightly higher than the other. That way, there will be 4 places for the gliders to feed at...

That's a good idea!

Now if only I can figure out a way to keep them from pooing in their dish!

Maybe you can design a glider kitchen to fit ontop of the food dish.

I had never thought of making a feeding station up like that. That is a great idea in any cage. I may just have to borrow it when I get my glider. I am still pretty much in the research phase now. You guys have a great bunch of ideas.

Ok... now that I've used this feeding station for a few days I thought I would share my thoughts!

I would definetely recommend using that plastic chain (usually used for toys) rather than fleece strips. The fleece strips work but stretch, they were all I had at the time!

Also- if you use the chain you can put it into the dishwasher & it's much easier to clean.

I'd also recommend Leyna's idea to put the rings around the pipes & clip it to the rings. I never did it because it was just temporary!

Another thing I thought of is a way to hang it so they can access the dish better. Rather than make all 4 straps short so it hangs in the center- I would make 2 (next to each other, not on a diagonal!) really long so that it could hang straight down from the side of the cage.

If anyone wants more info on that last part let me know & I can take some pics- hopefully it wasn't confusing!

We stole this idea for in the cage itself- allowed me to remove a shelf I hated cleaning- by inverting the glider kitchen Ukyo wouldn't go into on the bottom of the cage and leaving the lid off it contains their mess so I'm going to make a bunch of them for the gliders in a slightly smaller size.. and I second the chain idea!
