I'm going to start offering shipping through Continental, and I'm TERRIFIED. Those of you who already do this, PLEASE give me any tips/advice you might have. I have a copy of their checklist, but I'd like more information on the glider-specific practices. I've got a basic idea of how to package them based on how I've received joeys in the past, but specifics are even better!

Thanks!

I'm sorry no one has come along to help answer your questions. I do not have experience with shipping gliders, so I can't be of any help. Hopefully someone who has will come along shortly.

It's ok. I'm not in a HUGE rush lol. The only joey I have available now won't be ready to go until Sept. 20, so ... I've got time to get info and CALM MY NERVES.

Ashley I can help you when you get home. I've shipped quite a bit. And also help set up The Pet Gliders shipping which is every Tuesday.

My suggestion is to ship out early in the morning.

Continental sends their animals to Houston first which results with a couple hour layover.. then reroutes them to the animals destination.

Less error is made when shipping in the early morning. Flights later in the day often are delayed due to weather... especially if the last flight of the day.

Is there an airline that doesn't route the animals anywhere else? What about Delta - although I think they go through Continental, don't they?

And I would be too scared to ship later in the day anyway ... I don't want to stress my babies out by having them awake on a plane frown

Ya I should....I hope. Ya he's making mac and cheese.

Judie...I didn't know that. Being in Houston I dont deal with that. I thought they were straight flights.

i just got off the phone with continental. Ashley if you ship out of a diff airport besides JFK like Newark then it will go directly to your destination. I find it weird, but I guess because Houston is the Hub airport according to continental, then all your larger pet safe planes orginate here. I dunno atleast it doesn't affect me!

Ewwww Newark is gross. How does that work - if it's a smaller airport it doesn't go to the hub first? I'm confused. As usual lol.

Ok I dunno I called back and spoke with another lady I guess the guy lied to me. Everything will go through houston maybe cleveland sometimes. All the pet equipped planes go from whichever airport to houston(sometimes cleveland) from there because it is a large airport the HUGE pet equipped planes fly in there and can go anywhere. Seems like it would just be easier to ship them directly but w/e. I guess I'll have that luxury until I move.

DONT use any other airlines. Continetal is the ONLY airlines that transports the animals to and from the plane in a climate controlled van. THere is no telling how long the gliders will sit on the runway with delta.

Actually I've used American i think. It had to go to dallas then to Alabama. When you do that everything is scheduled by the weather. You can't ship if it's too hot/cold. THe people were VERY friendly, we probably went through 10 poss. flights trying to make it work.

Ashley, I don't know about glider specific but I both ship and receive shipments from Newark and Newark is great with shipping animals.

Actually Newark is the ONLY airport that I ship out of and receive animals into. Its a 3 1/2 hour drive for me but its so worth it.

I hate going to JFK and La Guardia!!

I was only kidding about Newark ... don't know anything about the airport, but the city itself ... eh.

But I will take your word if you've got experience with them. I want to make sure they are as safe as possible. And I'm STILL going to be terrified every time lol.

I was scared to death the first time I shipped too, Ashley. And I didn't start shipping all that long ago. My first time was in December. I had a bird shipped in right after that horrible ice storm in December. Newark was wonderful. 2 weeks later, I shipped out, they talked me through it and there were no kinks.

I highly recommend them!
