I don't know the answer to this. Is he in the cage with them? Or is he seperated? If he is not in the cage, you will have to babysit so that mom can eat, and you probably won't be able to introduce him.

Yes, he's in the cage with them. Well, the baby has about a week (estimated time by BeckiT) until it's OOP. I didn't seperate, because I watched them the first night and she didn't bother his incision(she's a good girl). I've been keeping an eye and she hasn't bothered it yet, but she does help him groom himself. She gets stressed fairly easy, so I left them together. He nuzzled on her last night, well, her belly. He may be "marking" her, but I just haven't seen it. I didn't know how he would do, being in the collar and all.

I think just leave it the way things are. They will adapt, and know what to do for the most part. You may have to help out.

Alright, Update time.

Gizmo is doing pretty well in his ecollar. I think he's just really infuriated with me right now. I've been watering down his food for the feeders, but I think he would rather eat out of the bowl. IDK. I have been feeding him from a spoon every now and then, until he gets done and wants down. He just sits around and stares at me with that pitiful look.

He will have been wearing the ecollar for 1 week on Wednesday. Will that be a good time to let him clean and groom himself? And just to see what happens.

I try to feel a little bit when he sits on my hand and eats, to see how his site is and it seems to be healing up nicely. Glue is still around, but it will eventually fall off.

Okay, I'm very happy about this update.

Tonight I let Gizmo have some "freedom", I brought their cage in the living room where I could watch him. I took him out of the ecollar and he groomed himself very good. He ate a lot and drank. He didn't pay a lot of attention to the glue, which is good. He just licks it. I kept distracting him and he played, got some exercise in his wheel. I did put him back in his ecollar before I went to bed though. I think I will do this every night so he's not so cramped up. I am very impressed at how it went. I will be calling the vet in the morning and see how long it will take before the glue will come out of his fur. Goodnight!

GOOD JOB! dance sounds like you are doing everything right. I have not been through the neutering thing yet...but it is coming. Have three little ones that need it. Soon your little one will be running around having a blast, and everything will be back to "normal" grin

Okay, here's an update.

I got up this morning to check on the babies, like I do every morning. Guess what? Gizmo got his ecollar OFF last night!! I don't know how, because whenever I fed them it was on him and he wasn't bothering it. I checked on them before I went to bed and he was in his wheel with the ecollar still on.

The tape wasn't ripped or anything, or look like Greta had chewed it. Greta doesn't like him when he has that thing on.

Needless to say, I checked him ALL OVER, especially his incision and it looks GREAT smile! He didn't even bother it. *knock on wood*.

So, I guess the question is. What should I do about this? Should I put it back on him or leave it alone and keep a VERY close eye on him? That ecollar has probably been off about 12 hours now, from what I assume, I don't know for sure. The only good thing I know is that he VERY good last night, because the food bowls very licked clean this morning.

I guess it's a good/bad thing. Any advice would gladly be appreciated!!

Thanks!!

I'm feeling that it's a good possibility! clap Just make sure you do check frequently! If you feel that things feel comfortable than go with what you feel.

I've been wondering where you've been!

I was actually quite terrified this morning when I found that ecollar at the bottom of the cage, but it's looking better for him all the time. Fur is starting to grow back!

He is taking care of the baby and staying with Greta, which he is doing very well! I'm SO happy that he's happy AND eating again!! AND drinking. I kinda had to push fluids on him the other night, because I worried.

I think he gets aggravated with me, because he has been keeping the baby warm and cleaning it and when I mess with him, he gives me that look.

I honestly feel deep down inside that he trusts me more and he loves and lets me kiss all over him.

Thank again!!

sounds like the biggest danger has passed but you are not totally out of the woods yet. Just keep an eye on him and please do...get us some family pictures when you can.

Alright guys, another morning update. Don't ya just love em? wink

I left the ecollar off of Gizmo last night and he's doing very well. I got up through the night and kept a check on him.

I checked on him this morning when I got up and he was asleep in his pouch with mommy and baby. His belly looks A OKAY! I'm SO glad. I have prayed he wouldn't need that thing back on, so far, so good.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed!

I def. couldn't have done it if you hadn't helped me the first day!!

I Thank each and every one of you that has helped me (and Giz) get through this and put up with me and my questions!

I'm SO glad he is doing better, because I don't think I could bear the thought of him hurting himself and being without him.

I guess in possibly 3-4 months we will be doing this yet again. Maybe this one will go smooth(hoping). We have already decided to keep him, because we both can't stand the thought of him going to a home that wouldn't take care of him. We have BIG hearts here! heart

Thanks again.

Update today

Gizmo is STILL out of the ecollar. (YAY!) He's doing very well, eating like a horse, taking care of the baby and being his old self. His little belly still looks fabulous! Looks like the scab, glue and all are about ready to fall off. I have one more question Linda, Teresa, Shawna, who ever can answer. I noticed a scabbed place on his back, could it have been from him digging the collar? It is almost healed up, it was already scabbed over when I saw it.

Odds are it is a little scratch place or even a rubbed spot from the collar. As long as it is healing and there is no sign of infection (and his mate is leaving it alone) then I wouldn't be too worried.

YEA for Gizmo though! I'm sure he is so much happier out of the collar than he was in it. It sounds like this is almost a done deal for y'all.

Pics of his incision or just in general?

Teresa-he hasn't been bothering it and Greta hasn't touched it, because it's still healing up well. He's been out of the collar for 3 days now. I know he's happy AND healthy thanks to all of you!

Fantastic!

Lindsey, you did absolutely fantastic helping him through this. You did everything RIGHT! You asked for help, you listened, you did what you had to do even though it was hard and inconvient. MOST IMPORTANTLY, you showed him real love and devotion.

Congrats on his recovery.

Thank you all SO much! I would walk through fire to take care of my animals and my child, because they can't take care of themselves. I know I've only had him about 6 months and I don't think I could live without him (or Greta) it just made me sad to see him like that. He's almost better though and that's what counts. I needed help and you all were there to show me the way, because we didn't know what to do and I was about to have a heart attack. So again, I want to say Thank you, and I'm sure we will have more updates until the stitches are completely gone.

FANTABULOUS!

You care for him is what pulled him through. Those of us on the board only offered suggestions and support but it was you that saved your little guy. GOOD JOB!
