Now we all know that we shouldn't give artificial sweeteners to our gliders but many don't know why.

I watched a show on the documentary channel the other night, I decided to do some more research.

Aspartame is made up of three chemical compounds.
50% phenylalanine, 40% aspartic acid and 10% methanol
(in the human body, methanol breaks down and becomes formaldahyde! which the body can NOT get rid of!)

IN HUMANS, aspartame poisoning can cause many adverse side effects, including 92 different symptoms - the list can be seen HERE. And if it can do this to HUMANS, imagine what it can do to something as small as a glider.

This is just ONE site and what it has on here is the same as what I saw on the show on the documenary channel. (though by different people)
http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-information.html

This is some SCARY stuff!

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

Teresa,
I have known for many years about Aspartame Toxicity and knew that I should not use it for myself because of it being a major migraine trigger nor for my sons due to ADHD & BiPolar Disorder. However, I didn't know the "why" so thank you for explaining that and for the link to the very interesting article. It really brings home why we tell people not to allow their gliders to have it shakehead I can just imagine how their little systems would react frown

Please check out snopes.com about this. The link posted is not exactly balanced. smile

There are aspartame allergies, but it is not a huge poison that this site makes it out to be.

I have been against aspartame for many years as people who ingest significant quantities (2-3 diet sodas per day)often exhibit multiple sclerosis type symptoms......most people were lucky enough to have the symptoms decrease when they decreased their intake but there were some permanent results as well......

The only thing that snopes disputes is the claim that aspartame causes mulitple sclerosis an lupis. The truth is, it can MIMIC those illnesses as well as many others causing misdiagnosis. This can be even more dangerous as now that person may be on all sorts of other meds that are totally unneeded.

Here is another that attemtps to give both sides of the story.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame_controversy

There is so much controversy and allegations as to just HOW aspartame ever got approved by the FDA. Test after test after test that was used for FDA approval was either done BY the company making the product or PAID for by the company. There were NO independant studies done.

And another
http://www.mercola.com/article/aspartame/dangers.htm

I could continue to list and list and list but just google aspartame.
This is not just an "email hoax" like the nutrasweet company claims.

I still remember the day a man came to my door wanting to give me some gumballs made with aspartame. He said it had no regular sugar in them. My doctor talked about how they were working on such a product.

I was thrilled. I LOVED those gumballs!

I still do smile

I had M.S long before aspartame came out and have been eating it, drinking it constantly now for getting close to 30 years. It hasn't made symptoms worse or caused any other problems with me.

My son has bipolar disorder and can't have sugars. Aspartame lets him have sweet things like e'one else.

I go through 2 2 liter diet Mt. Dews a day ..at least (LOL) and am always eating the sugar free stuff.

Being a Juvenile diabetic with uncontrolled levels, Asparame is a LIFESAVER for people like me.

However, NO way would I ever feed anything but NATURAL things to my suggies and other pets. smile (NO aspartame for them)
