I was just watching my kiddos and Bonnie is acting very strange. I'm not certain on how far along she is, (these are my first joeys, BUT not her first). I posted pictures of her "belly shots" several days ago.

She's sitting up in her hammock, so I couldn't see all angles, but if I didn't know any better I'd say it looked as though she was giving birth. I've watched cats, dogs, mice, rats, guinea pigs, and humans give birth, so I know what it looks like, lol. I stood so I could see her better, and her side just above her hind leg was moving, it looked like it was alive. Then she would hunch up and would almost get on her tippy toes...stay hunched for a while, then she would bend down between her front legs to her pouch area or lower (not sure) and it looked like licking motions. Could she possibly be giving birth to more joey(s) before the twins are OOP? Or could she be cleaning the twins? Or is it something else???

Thank you

I will bet you that is what she is doing. It usually takes about 20 or 30 min. for them to give birth. They will lick and lick until the "baby" comes into the pouch. GOood luck and keep us posted

I just went to look in on her, and she is back in her sleeping pouch and is very, very crabby...and that is putting it nicely. She acted like she was out for blood with me. I told Clyde that he should probably sleep in the wheel tonight.

I guess time will tell...

How far along are her babies in pouch? It almost sounds like they are starting to move around to the point where they are getting uncomfortable and she's moving/grooming them in her pouch. It's not very common for a female to have more joeys drop in pouch while she already has some in pouch, but it does happen. It's much more common for mom to be grooming the babies that are already in pouch though.

Oh, and another thought... What time during the day did you witness this? Most glider births take place between 7 am -7 pm...

Yea, sounds like she was grooming and rearanging them so she would be more comfortable!!

It happened at about 9:30 or 10:00 pm. I honestly don't know how far along she is. I wish I could figure it out. At what point do they start this activity?
