I have no idea. Are we all sitting down? I just fed them and I took her out, she walked up to the dish and TOOK A WORM!!!!! OMG!!!!! Then I offered her a piece of corn, she gobbled it down. Then she realized Petey had gone back in the pouch, so she followed. But I am in tears here....she ate something. I know it is not much at all, but heck, she has turned her face at everything for the last three days! (And btw, I have not even given her her meds yet, as I wanted to feed everyone before I did.) I am thinking the fluids must have helped! I will be giving her the meds now, but had to post this! Keep those prayers coming!!!!!
She probably got the Giardia because the repeat UTI's have knocked down her immune system. Giardia is all around us all of the time but we are able to keep it at bay because our immune systems are working well. When we are really sick, stressed, tired, etc. it can rear up and take hold (it doesn't mean it always will, but those things leave an open door and Giardia will often 'walk' right through it). You will never be able to figure out where it came from, believe me, I was driving myself crazy before all of the research to figure that one out.
I am sorry to hear it is Giardia and that she is fighting another UTI! But so glad it isn't something else.
Treating Giardia is a long haul, but you and she will get through it.

If we never loved, then maybe we would never feel pain. Love anyway. It's worth it.

Well, the diagnosis is based on her symptoms, really. A poo sample was sent out today, but they were together and it was in the pouch they were in (well, there were three, two normal ones, one very large, very soft one, so they sent that anyway. I have no way of knowing whose it is, but since they are together and mate, if one has it, they both will.) I plan on speaking to my regular (glider) vet about the whole thing and testing and retesting and ways to (hopefully try) to keep this from happening. Sadly, both Roo and Petey came from awful beginnings, in awful conditions, and not alot of clear 'history' (although I do know Petey came from a petstore, and they had got him 'from someone' and didn't know much about him and he then was rehomed three more times. That is the reason I took him, so he would never be rehomed again.) Anyway, meds are in (Petey was NOT a happy camper). I will post in the morning. Been a long day (since I knew I was driving, could not take my meds for my neck......after almost 2 hours in traffic on the way home.....well, think you get the idea. Now I need my meds, too! lol) Thanks. I will post more tomorrow. Tonight, I think we all need a good nights sleep!
Mary, I'm sorry they have this awful illness but you caught it EARLY EARLY EARLY! I'm sure treatment won't be as difficult as it would have been had you not caught it so soon1
Taking 'rectally'. I have never had one's temp taken (truthfully I wasn't sure what it was supposed to be). I was very pleasantly surprised when I woke up this morning and went in to check.......Roo was out (she usually is every morning when I get up)! She looked bright eyed, and when I went to pet her, she waddled away (normal for her, but I am sure after all this, she is a little more gun shy then normal....can't blame her). Petey, last night when I went to do a final cage check and say my goodnights....when I said good night to him....he crabbed! (Told you he was not a happy camper...lol) But I am encouraged seeing her out, doing what she 'normally' does. I will continue giving her pedialyte until I see her eating more normal, but I am hoping what she did last night was a good sign she felt at least a little better. Praying it continues! Thanks guys.....today, the 'big clean and move'.....lol
Hmmm, that's different from what I remember, but I knew it was lower than humans, dogs, cats, etc., which is why they don't think rabies could incubate, assuming, of course that the animal that bit them didn't kill them straight off!
oops, very off topic, sorry!

I will double check (as I said, she didn't say the 'number' just it was normal. I was trying to look at the readout upside down, but my eyes aren't the best....lol) I was surprised anyway, as their temp had never been taken (and Roo wasn't all too happy, either! lol)
I thought it said 96 (but again, reading upside down, from several steps away, probably isn't the best way...lol) But she said it was normal. Got their meds in them (well, have to go pick up the amoxy for Roo now, so she will get one more when I get home.) My order of 5000 mealies and 500 waxies will be here today, too, so that is good (hopefully she will want some). I am off to go get supplies and will be back later. Thanks for keeping her in your thoughts.....
I always think it is best to have a face to put to a name, so in case anyone doesn't know Roo, here she is (before she lost so much weight......she look like a sumu wrestler in these...lol)
Thank you. I think that is the most important thing, know your animals well, so you will pick up on subtle things (although not eating I wouldn't really call subtle, but you know what I mean.)
I am so happy! My mealies and waxworms came today, so I took one of the waxworm containers in the room. I called for Roo and Petey. I start to see the pouch move, and am fully expecting it to be Petey (Roo normally comes right out, but hasn't for days). Lo and behold, it is Roo! I offer her a waxworm, she snatched it so fast it scared me a little! lol She came back looking for more. She ate five waxies (I know, normally I would not give her that many, but given the circumstances, I couldn't deny her!) Petey only wanted one (I think the meds are messing with his tummy a bit, but then he sometimes will take waxies and sometimes won't, so who knows.) She looks so much more bright eyed and like herself. She no longer has a wet bottom, either. And she was chirping when she ate!!!! I feel like I am walking on air right now!! Just had to share.
It just makes my day to hear that Roo is acting like herself! I know the scariest thing sometimes is that look they get and you don't know how to help them. Glad she is feeling better! My prayers are still with you and yours that all of this clears up quickly!

Thank you! Yes, to hear her 'I love my wormies' happy chirp was the best!!! Roo loves to eat and to see her turn her face was so hard. I knew she had to feel really bad to be doing that. I hate when any of my animals are sick. They don't understand and I feel so helpless that I can't help them understand.
