My gliders cage is pretty decked out...or so I thought. I have branches and ladders, canopies, pouches, and a hanging tunnel. But after reading some other posts, I read about gliders playing with thigns like monkeys in a barrel and army men. I never would have thought of my glider liking things like that. Do any of your gliders have some kind of favorite toy? I am very interested in learning more.

Chloe loves to take pompoms out of her plastic egg everynight. In the morning I put all the pompoms in the egg and at night she loves to pull them out and knock them around the cage. She also loves to move her monkeys in the barrel around. I got a sweet pea from Monster with pompom (pretend pea) in it that she loves to pull out everynight and throw to the bottom of the cage.

When you say pompoms do you mean just those big ones like you use for arts and crafts? Do you ever have to worry about gliders trying to eat things like that?

I have a lot of toy ideas and some pictures on my website on the enrichment page and the tent time page.

Still working on the website though, so excuse any mess!

I have small plastic buckets I picked up at the dollar store during Easter, and I zip tie the handle to a branch so it can't fall off. I fill it up with those hard plastic straws used for making toys, the toy soldiers, pom pom's, the monkeys, wiffle balls, etc. Putting all the things in the bucket makes it challenging for them to get them out! They have to go down in the bucket, choose something and then get back out. Of course it's all safe and I have it placed where they can't get hurt and could actually reach the side of the cage if they had too.

Anita of Sugar Rae's Attic sells some great foraging toys. My guys just love them, expecially the ones with the open cups. It is a blast to watch them trying to get treats out of them.

Also, the dollar tree had "stackables" and ring toss and I keep those in the bottom of the cages. They love taking them apart. The only problem is I have to put it all back together every single night so they can do it all again! That's ok, cause I doing anything that makes my babies happy! Oh yeh, and don't forget the favorite wads of raffia grass!! Undyed of course!

You should try putting lots of colorful beads and on thread (lots of different strands) and place them all together and finish it off with one of those bracelet type hooks or metal rings (like the ones key chains have) and hang them in your cage. [:"purple"] [/]

Catherine,
I just checked out your site and thank you so much! Those are some great ideas...I've been looking for some toys but the pet stores really haven't had what I've been looking for. Now I have a better idea of what I want and I know right where to get it. The pictures were a great help.

I liked the other ideas as well. I'm a new mom so I've been doing a lot of reading on this forum to get new ideas.

I do have a question, though, about tent time. How soon can I start doing this? Do I wait until they've bonded a bit or do this during the bonding process? It looks like fun and a great way to interact with my sweeties.

Thanks

Tent time started at the end of their first week at home with us here! They had to interact with us and it was so much fun. They would climb up to my head and then glide down to the floor of the tent. We covered the floor of the tent with a blanket or a sheet as some gliders don't like the sound of the plastic. Good luck tent time is a blast!
