[:"green"]The general concensus is that higher is better. Since gliders are arboreal in the wild (they live in the tops of trees) they need to be able to feel they are as high up as possible. Now, that's not to say that deeper is better, but higher. For example, a 5' tall cage that starts at floor level is not necessarily any better than a 3' tall cage that's elevated by sitting on top of a 2' tall table, understand? I, personally, like a wider cage that's about 3' tall and is elevated because it gives my gliders the best of both worlds - they have the jumping room they like PLUS they have the height they prefer.

i was kinda thinking of making a cage 5' long and maybe 3' high and mounting it on the wall somehow to make it seem higher from the ground. i was just wondering if they would like that more since they would be high and can maybe glider from toy to toy instead of going up and down a narrow cage. i wish i can just have 1 room dedicated to them or have a big cage outside the house. that would be so kul!

[:"green"]Wow! Mounting it on the wall is a really cool idea. I never thought of that. I think your whole idea sounds great! Go for it and please let us see pix when you're done building it!!!

Make sure if you mount it on the wall it's easily removeable for cage cleanings!!

sounds like a cool idea to me!

Suz- I guess I didn't really know that about the height- aka 5' versus 3' on a stand!! I just thought gynormously tall cage in general!

I think you should get a higher cage than a wider cage.

i was thinking wider cause then they can jump around in there and was thinking 3 feet high, since most cages are that tall anyways. what do u guys think? do u think they prefer going up and down?

It really depends on the gliders. Some people say their gliders never go to the bottom of their cage and others do.

My gliders use every inch of their cage (5' tall 2' deep/wide) so I personally would go taller than wider. I think that stands end up being a waste of space. I'd rather use that space for more area for the gliders to move around.

The main problems with mouting a cage would be cleaning, portability, keeping the walls clean, and being able to securely attach it to the wall.

I wouldn't rush into anything yet, just take a look at the housing gallery and see if you can find some housing ideaas that would work for you.

Now I think wider is better. So you'll see we will all tell you something different I do think a light weight cage that could be mounted, easily moved, yet secure and easy to clean would be a gerat idea. You invent it let us all know. I'd love to see pictures.

yeah in still thinking about it. cause the way i see it, they like to jump around and sideways is the natural way, like fish tanks are better wider than taller since fish swim sideways not up and down. i was thinking of making it out of pvc for lightweightedness and i can use some clamps for holding it in place. right now thou i will be using a regular cage and maybe have that as a project next summer. unless i get a house/townhouse soon then the garage will be the glider room! that would be so kul!
