Last night I saw BooBoo and Zoey at it. Their joey is only 9 days oop. What do I do? Do they always mate this soon after joey is oop?

Usually they do but if they get pregnant it will be hard for the mother to care for her young. I suggest that if they continue to mate you should sepperate the male from the female just for a couple of months or until the baby glider is ready to be weaned.

Nothing you can do except get your male neutered to stop it. Mom makes the ultimate desicion if she lets the pregnancy go through though!

Do not seperate them. Dad plays a very important part with raising the joeys. example, he watches and keeps them warm while mom goes and eats and plays. Without dad, you can jeprodize they joeys, unless you are there to keep them warm!

Maybe. But if the glider gets pregnant it could jepordize the mother and the new babies life. The baby would not be taken care of as much as it needed if the mother became stressed because of the hastle of 2 babies at different ages and so close together.

This is a tuff situation, the more i think about it i wouldn't seperate the male either.

Hmmm... I don't think I would separate them either- you'll do more harm than good. Not only does the dad help with the little tater tots but mom could get stressed if he turns up missing, not to mention the fact that he might too.

Your best bet is neutering! They sure are frisky!

I think that the only thing that would save the problem now would be to neuter him.

Don't worry about seperating the mom from the dad. They need to be together and the dad plays a big role in joey rearing. Also, removing dad from mom will stress mom out too much and she doesn't need that right now.

Now, as for joey making. This is not at all out of the normal. Frequently after joey's are just oop, mom and dad will mate right away. You will often find about the time joeys are weaning... new joeys will be close to being oop. That is the reason they have multiple nipples. This is the way mother nature made them.

What I would do if you end up with too many joeys, popping out right and left and that can happen. Is get daddy neutered. That is the only sure fire way to prevent extra joeys and still allow your bonded pair to stay together.

Again, if you feel like mommy is having too many joeys, too close together, is too stressed, and doesn't get enough rest between joeys, then neuter dad. Hope that helps some.

My new mommy would never have been able to get this far with out the daddy. He keeps the babies warm when she eats and runs around the cage. Seeing as how the babies can't keep their own body temperature, the daddy needs to be there with the babies. I couldn't imagine separating them even if they had no babies to take care of, either. They are bonded and that would be too much stress and too sad.

Also, I saw mine gettin it on about 3 days after their babies came out of the pouch, I heard it is totally normal. But, it is okay for me if they have more babies, so that is up to you. Good Luck and congrats on your new babies!

Don't seperate them. If mom can't handle having more joeys, she won't. If you can't handle having more joeys, get dad neutered... My females have been having joeys back to back like it's nobodies business lately. All of my females are nice and healthy though and so are their joeys...

Thank you all so much. You all have been a big help. Now I have run into another prob.. The joey is being left in the pouch alone while the mom & dad eat and play. I thought one was to stay with the joey while the other eat and played, then switch out later. Is it okay that they leave the joey alone? They don't always come when it cries. Once again thank you all for the help.

Are you able to check the joey to see if he or she is hydrated? If so, please do so. I too noticed this happened alot with my gliders first set of little joeys. I opted to feed supplements made of baby bml, using the wombaroo instead of the puppy replacement, but either one is fine. Here is a link to critterville joey resue:

http://www.crittervillerescue.com/joeys/instructions.htm

If at all possible I highly recommend leaving the joey(s) with the mom and dad as this is the best for them. In the meantime, you may opt to get the materials necessary to set up a joey incubator, you can find the step by step instructions on that web page, jsut in case you may need to actually resue the joey from the parents. It's nice to be prepared for anything. Hope this helps you!
