I have gone back and forth from the joey developement page and my cage so many times I have worn out the floor I am sure . The hard part is, the joey page is with twins and my girl only has one.

Can joeys move in the pouch? I know their jaws don't develope until later, so once they attach to the nipple is that it? They are in that position until jaw developement allows detachment/movement? I ask as my girl seems to have the baby on her side. Her front is about 5 weeks compared to the pictures but when she bends over it looks like she has a tumor sticking out of the side of her by her hind leg. Just how big is the pouch and how far back into the body does it span?

Last night she was sitting on her rearend(like a couch potato as hubby put it) on the bottom of the cage bent in half, back legs sticking out infront of her, holding her pouch open with both hands and cleaning inside . From one side she looked normal and from the other it looked like a golfball between her ribs and hindleg on the side, but the frontal view was still between that grape/small walnut stage. Can they have 2 joeys on the same side? I know they have 4 nipples, are they positioned 2 ontop of 2 like a cow udder?

When she walks you can see the joey stick out of her side, I would say it sticks out atleast 1/2 an inch, very noticable for their tiny frames.

Any tale tale signs to look for to impending OOP time? She is hilarious in the morning at worm time. After her 4 worms she can't suck in/hide that pouch and her whole side just goes VOOM, but not her front really. Could she be carrying in a different position? Head in the front and the rear to the outside? The photos show the joeys in the front, but it doesn't look like she is carrying the joey in the front. I haven't held her to check and feel around as she is pouch protective and I don't want to cause any unnecessary stress so I just look from a distance. We use cheerios to get her to stretch out for them so we can see and look. She loves her cheerios.

I am trying to figure out the best time to lower the pouch, lower food dishes, water bottles..etc. Or should I just lower the pouch for now? I was thinking of lowering most of the toys and such to prevent drop distance just in case. Maybe that is why Loki brings the fruit and stuff down to her? He brings her food to the lower perches/floor . Maybe I should lower the food dishes/water bottle for her? I want to keep her protien and calcium intake high enough. She will venture up to eat on the BML(Judie's)

I've noticed a lower activity level in the last week. She sits on the lower perches and minimal running in the wheel(usually she is a wheelaholic), not sure if that is from discomfort or what. I know she doesn't move that one hind leg as much since the joey sticks out when she bends it so her movement on that side is less. Her personality hasn't changed, still outgoing and curious and loving.

Any input, advice or comfort would be welcomed .

When you start seeing tailes or body parts hanging out, its time to lower the pouch. When you see that its about a week or so till they are oop.

Breathe and relax, that is my only advice it sounds like you are all doing well and like your a first time grandmom. Oh how I remember it. I swear Sissy was pregnant for like 4 months, lol, well.... it felt like it.

Everything you have described sounds very normal to me. And yes as they get closer to being oop, they can switch nipples. One time you'll see them on the left, one time on the right, sometimes you'll swear there is two, sometimes there is one. She is just trying to keep you jumping. But it sounds like there is only one there to me, and I'd say shes getting pretty close. But it won't feel like that to you I am sure.

As for dropping pouches and such, it's just me but I have never done that. I have never had a joey fall, mother fall, but I am not saying it can't happen. In the wild they live and rear their joeys in tall tall trees with no pouches, perches, or food placed low. One thing I do do is remove the wheel a few weeks before joeys are oop and I leave it out for several more weeks. Only because I once saw a joey nursing half in and half out, while mom was running in the wheel and the little joey body was going bump.. bump... bump.

But if your worried about it, just move the pouches, food dishes, water, all all toys down some. It certainly won't hurt them and I doubt it will upset them.

Goodness, I can't remember all your questions now. Mainly just wanted to tell you it sounds like you are all doing well, and that waiting for that joey will seem like forever. But eventually, it will have to come out. Momma is just waiting to see if you'll have a nervous breakdown first.

Congradulations and can't wait to hear what it is and see pictures. They are so much fun.

WOOHOO, was very excited last night. Pandora let me rub my fingers under her belly. I gently felt the location of the joey and measured it's length against my finger. Joey is about 1.5 inches long.

So about 2 weeks left?

I tried to see if I could get some pictures of her belly but it was a no go. From what she would let us see we couldn't see any body parts as of yet. But we did find out the little one is laying on it's side with it's backside to her left and attached to the left nipple(s). So it is wrapped around her left side for now. We are sure it will re-adjust the bigger it gets.

YES this seems like it is taking forever. Breath in-Breath out..feel the relaxation. I just keep telling myself "healthy baby healthy baby" so take as long in that oven as you need little one. Made a new bonding pouch. Will I be able to continue with the bonding pouch time after the little one is OOP? Or should I hold off for a few weeks?

No, you can interact with the joey when it comes oop. Just slowly. Maybe first time for like 5 min. and each week inrease the time. Just be sure mom and dad are close so they can see the baby

I too was sceptacle at bothering or handling my first joeys, but my mommy, Sweet Pea is soo sweeeet, that she allowed me to handle them from the first night they were OOP. You are in for some remarkable moments with your new little family of babies! I am so excited for you! I too did as gliderdad Eddie stated, just spent a few moments a little at a time until eventually my first set would spend about 45 minutes to and hour each night with me. Oh yeah, I also offered them supplements of baby bml for about 6 weeks from day 1 (just to give Sweet Pea a little break, once a night during the week and twice on the week-ends morning and night) which really worked out extremely well. I was very pleased with how well my tame little guys became!!
I sure hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoyed mine, you'll have a blast!
