I have two joeys, 3.5 weeks Oop. The mother has rejected one. What formula can I feed her, and how often? Should I remove her from her parents, and if so, should I keep her with me? Any advice would be appreciated! Please respond ASAP!

I have never dealt with a rejected joy myself. Is her mother completly not letting her nurse. Im not sure how the mother is acting towards her so you could try just helping her feed. It might be because the mother is not producing enough milk. Make sure you keep the joy warm. A cold joy will not eat. Next you should feed the joy Wambroo milk ( www.exoticnutrition.com ) or if you need it now you can feed puppy replacement milk. She she be feed around the clock every 2 hours. Someone with more experience will be along shortly. Good luck

Well, first things first... Are you sure the joey is rejected? 3.5 weeks OOP is a little old for a mom to be rejecting a joey.

If she is rejecting the joey, the joey is actually at a very good age to start weaning. I personally prefer to feed ensure to joeys. With a joey that age, take a cap from a baby food jar and fill it part way with room temp ensure. Set the joey next to the cap and dip your finger in the ensure and then put your finger to the joeys mouth. It should lick it off. Then, slowly direct the joey over to the bowl and it should eat on it's own.

You'll also need to set up a nursy. A kritter keeper or small aquarium would work well. Put a heating pad on low under it and then fill it with paper towels until you make a nice little nest.

At that age, the joey will need to eat every 2-4 hours and you'll have to stimuate it to go to the bathroom before and after every meal.

Noah, I think we have to know more information before we can help you. Like Leyna, I want to know what makes you think one joey is being rejected. What does the joey look like, left alone, cold, skinny, crying, any bites or marks, etc.? And how about the second joey, same questions. Also, what is the out of pouch date? Once we have some answers, we can better tailor your advice. Hope to hear from you soon.

[:"green"]I agree with Leyna about the fact that it's unusual for a joey to be rejected at this age. What makes you believe it's been rejected? Is the mother trying to hurt it at all? Does it have any visible wounds on its face?
If, in fact, the joey is being rejected, I prefer to feed my joeys a Joey Formula. Here's the recipe:
- 1 Tbsp. Gliderade (already liquified with water or Pedialyte)
- 1 Tbsp. Booster Milk or Puppy Formula (already liquified)
- 1 tsp. Baby Cereal (any flavor/variety)
Mix all together until smooth.
For more information, I have set up a page on my website specifically for your situation: Hand Raising A Joey - please check it out. There are specific age-oriented feeding instructions and directions for making an incubator. I think you will find it helpful.

I have no experience with rejected joeys but I do know that we got our first glider when she was 4 weeks OOP. She was at a pet store. The petstore got her from someone local and they had been told that it was OK to pull the joeys at 4 weeks OOP. I fed Joey BML on the advice from Suncoast gliders and learned that 4 weeks is too young. I gave her 1/2 of a boiled egg crumbled up, baby foods chicken dices and fresh fruit along with yogurt. I kept a small dish of water and a water bottle above it to help adjust to water bottle. I carried her around in my bra all day and a small cage next to my bed at night lined with lots of fleece and a small heating pad if she needed on part of it. She is now almost a year old and a plucky little girl.

I don't know if any of this helps. If anything maybe just a comfort in knowing that the joey has a great chance.

No, 4 weeks oop is too young to pull from parents. My bad, worded it wrong. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Suncoast told me to feed joey BML and that 4 weeks oop was too young to be pulled from parents.

Does that sound better? Sometimes my mind goes faster then my fingers can keep up.

Although what Unicorn said is true, if they are pulled to be handraised, it is okay b/c if it really is rejected, it has a better chance with the person.

Mine have been handraised since 6 days OOP and they are doing great now at 6 weeks OOP.

www.freeforums.com/suggiestuff has some info but Suz' site is great and she has been the person I always call when I need help.

Mine would not for the life of them take the baby BML and I used the joey formula listed above and they love it. Use what you think is best. I personally do not use BML, but that is not to say it's not great, b/c it is.

Ya that is a little late for the mother to be rejecting her joey.
