I need some advice on a toy. We all know how in the wild suggies peel the bark off of trees to eat the yummy stuff underneath. Well, I sort of want to recreate that. But, Im having a problem figuring out what the "bark" of my tree would be. The stipulations are that it has to be non toxic, not all that expensive, and tearable or chewable. Any suggiestions? I just cant think of anything!

I can't think of anything right now either, but I'll keep trying. I'll post if I do.

Toilet paper rolls, or paper towel rolls. My gliders LOVE to rip and tear through them. I leave a few squares of toilet paper on them and it is all she wrote. They see it coming toward the cage and get all excited. Toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls are a priceless commodity in my house.

I look forward to seeing your idea.

What about un-dyed rafia grass? I don't know what your trees look like, so maybe I'm barking up the wrong kind, but it can be wound tightly, is safe and they love to tear it apart. Just a thought. Actually you could even put treats under it so that when they tore it down, they would find them.

I like Mimijo's idea!!

It would probably help to know what exactly your tree looks like- or how it's made- or maybe just a better description. Hopefully, then we can help you think of something that will work better!

I've tought about this one before and I've actually made a couple little toys that you might like... They are little PCV pipes that I hang in the cage. I smear the outside with a treat, like Mazuri Callatrichid Marmoset diet. Then, I put corn husk, like what you use to make tamales, over that. Have it in the cage and let the gliders have at it They usually get kind of messy, but they love it. Also, I like to stick mealies under the corn husk as well...

Tamale Husks are corn husks aren't they? If so, is there any chance of getting Aflatoxin poisoning from them? Just wondered.
