When I got the boys up tonight I noticed a lump on the side of Boo-Boo that I have not noticed before. I have called one of my vets and they will be in doing surgeries all morning and I am to call them 1st thing. The lump is very soft and he acts like his normal self, eating well and getting around, and yes I know they hide their illnesses very well. Boo is 8 years old.
I took 2 pictures.

I will keep you all posted.

I'm sorry to hear this about BooBoo. I'm glad that you will be able to get him in to see the vet tomorrow. If they say to wait because they are to busy, I suggest that you just show up with him regardless. If this is left untreated, it can become serious. For tonight, try and limit his food to soft/pureed types just in case he might have an abscess or something stuck in his teeth.
Please keep us posted. Sending lots of hugs and prayers.

I just noticed it tonight and where it is located it can be deceiving that it is the top of his leg if he holds it a certain way.
Is seems to have come on pretty quick though???
I will need many prayers on this one. Boo is the 1st glider I ever had and he is my buddy agree
Thank you.....Pat

I am praying for Boo Boo to be okay. Is there any redness at all? You said it's soft? That can be a good sign...better than a hard lump. Do you see him scratching like maybe a mosquito bit him or something?

Please keep us posted on what the vet says (I know you will) smile

It may just be the angle of the picture, but in the first photo I saw a small red spot at the edge of the lump that looks like it might be a small wound of some type. Could it be that he hurt himself on something sharp in his cage?

The main thing is to get him seen at the vet, of course, but in the meantime check everything in his cage for sharp points or edges.

Hope he will be fine!

Good morning and thanks everyone. It is way early here yet so the vet won't be there for a while. Boo is, except for the lump, his normal self. I have a video uploading to Photobucket right now so you can kinda see what it looks like. As I said it is real soft, not hot, not red. I point to the area in the video. I will let you know how everything goes.

thanks

The softness is a very good sign - hopefully it is an abcessed wound and it is just full of puss. I know that doesn't sound like a good thing, but trust me, in the world of lumps, it is. Do you see a scab anywhere? Or a pinhole/puncture, bug bite? Anything on it that indicates that something could have entered from the outside?

I have had things like this happen with my dogs where it was an abcess from an old wound. The vet peeled the scab off & gently squeezed the lump - nasty puss came out! She cleaned it up & put them on an oral antibiotic & told me that if the abcess filled back up, to do just like she did in the office.

Please please please update when you get back from the vet. I will be thinking about Boo all day & crossing my fingers thats all this is!

I see nothing out or the ordinary besides the lump. He is motoring all around his room, climbing the ropes, just being himself, but I know how that goes. I will let you know as soon as I find out. It would be real nice if it is just a abscess and can just be drained.
Thank you.....Pat

"WE'RE BACK"
Just got in from the vet. He did not think it is an abscess, stuck a needle in it and got nothing. He seems to feel it is a fat pad (although not sure why it would be in that area) but is also hoping it is not a connective tissue infection. Boo will be on Baytrill for 10 days.
Boo was so sweet. I held him to my chest as the DR stuck him with the needle and he was just chirping away did not even flinch, didn't even remotely try to bite. Of course he got a mealie right after that (I brought the goods with me, mealies, dried papaya, 2 pine nuts, a grape). He settled on the mealie.

Thanks for everyone's concern, and prayers for my buddy.

I'll keep everyone posted.
Pat

Oh, I had to open the mealies for him in the video last night. He Yummed them up!!!!

When he stuck the needle in, do you mean a syringe? When they got "nothing" out of Fawkes' lump, they shot the air out of the empty syringe onto a slide & looked at it under the microscope - because apparently, even though it looked like they got nothing, they were able to see plenty under the microscope...does that make sense? Anyways, what I'm trying to ask if if they looked at Boo's "nothing"...

Boo's lump probably didn't concern him in that way since it is soft and not solid.

If over the course of the antibiotic, you don't feel that the lump is going down, or if you finish the antibiotics & the lump is still there, I might ask for a fine needle aspiration (the procedure I just described).

Rooting for Boo!

I agree with Gina, they should have looked at it under a microscope, as they would still be able to see cells. 'Generally' if an infection is present, they 'usually' will be able to aspirate some fluid. I know it is a pain, but I would call and ask if they could do it again and take a slide, to see what type of cells are in it. When Timmy had his lump, there were no cancer cells in in (thankfully it was not cancer), they looked like normal 'fat' cells. They should not charge you to go back in, either, as they really should have done this in the first place. I'm glad he was a good boy. Keep us posted.
